Where to mount a flashlight on your M4?

streamlight flashlightsOk, Ok, I know you might not have an actual M4 Carbine but you do have an AR15 in some sort of configuration.   There are plenty of ways to get a light on a gun and you can always get your own custom mounting system, but there are always do’s and don’ts  when it comes to accessorizing.  The most common thing people don’t do is mount optics, sights or flashlights properly.  I’ve seen so many canted accessories and optics that I don’t understand why anyone would bother to shoot good ammunition when there elevation and windage are going to be off.   When shopping for a firearm, you really should put some thought into getting a quad rail or an MOE system.  I think the Magpul MOE system is a better idea because it lighter from the get go and kind of starts you at a less tactical point in the accessorizing stage.

With the Magpul MOE system you can just buy a rail, attach it to your forearm and then you you don’t need to worry about buying rail skins or rail covers.  I’ve had rail covers on my 3 and 6 o’clock for years because I never need that  now I’m looking into some of the Streamlight Flashlights like the TLR1S or the TLR2 since the newer 2013 models have 80% more lighting power.    Last years model was 160 lumens and this years are 300 lumens.  I always thought 200 lumens was a great lighting limit but it really depends on whether you are indoors or outdoors.  In most situations indoors you don’t need as much throw as you do outside.  Those are other things to consider when selecting a light on your AR15.

Caliber conversion kits from Advantage Arms

Advantage Arms Conversion KitsIf you are looking for a review about the Advantage Arms 22LR conversion kits, well, there’s not much to say other then they are hard to get and in high demand.   Several years ago we heard about these from one of our Sales reps so we started bringing them in stock.  They sold out in minutes and when we went to order them again, they told us it might be months before we get a restock, we were shocked.   The Glock 19 and Glock 17 kits are by far the most wanted but we can hardly acquire them.  Each conversion kit will make sure gun a 22LR practice gun and with all of the crazy stuff going on about ammunition ect. these will give you firing range time for less  money.  If you have a Glock 17-22 we have a good selection of these in stock right now.  Each kit comes with cleaning liquids as well as one magazine.

We have a large selection of Glock 19 and Glock 17  magazines and those are just as hard to keep in stock.   Our supply of Advantage Arms Conversion kits is very sporadic and you really have to jump when you see them.   Even though you may not be training with your 9mm  ammunition, you can still practice trigger control or drawing your weapon from a Blackhawk Serpa holster without having to loose the muscle memory.   Practicing things like this with a 22LR gives you live action firing drills and way less of a drain in your pocket.   I find these kits to run very reliable if you get the right kind of 22 caliber ammunition for your gun.

Law Enforcement and Civillian Sabre Defense Options

Kimber pepper blaster IIThe new Kimber Pepper Blaster II is a huge improvement over the early Kimber Guardian Angel.   The device has a better grip and actually has sights on it.   Although you may at first think they are expensive, they almost 2xs longer than bottle sprays and are easier to hold and aim than any flip tab bottle.   If you are carrying a firearm as a Civilian, carrying a backup or secondary weapons, other than a knife that give you even more security in defusing a hostile situation without the legal ramifications of using a firearm may only cost you $20-$40, would you take it?

We all know there are people that are living in States where carrying a firearm is not allowed, but considering how good modern technology has become, Sabre Defense pepper sprays and tasers have become viable options for self defense.   We also highly recommend people consider carrying some level of less-lethal device other than a knife or a firearm because there are are more than likely more incidences where dealing with an obnoxious bully or drunk can be diffused with pepper spray than waiving a firearm and then having to deal with law enforcement in a he said she said.  While it is true that many Law Enforcement Officials have been using tasers, even those have proven to not always workASP Pepper Sprays and many other options for backup or primary non-lethal defense

New Gen 3 pmags are improved in more ways than just feel

magpul pmagsMagpul Pmags are the most durable and reliable AR15 magazine and have extended the life of the direct impingement firearm. Magpul Pmags are available in Black, OD Green, Foliage and Dark Earth. We are a stocking dealer for all Magpul Accessories, gun grips, magazine accessories and gun stocks. Our inventory of Magpul Pmags are also available in 10rd, 20rd and 30rd magazine capacities.  There are considerable differences between the Gen 2 and Gen 3 pmags and it’s not just the look but there are composite material improvements so that the Gen 3 magazine lips are stronger and don’t crack when loaded for long periods of time.

Everyone seems to think that the AR15 always uses 30rd magazines, but for those that have trained, there is something that balances out the M4 Carbine very well by using 20rd round magazines. The Magpul Pmags that we sell are the most reliable AR15 magazines and there is lots of proof if you do your research on the internet or Youtube.com  Magpul Pmag durability is superb and the AR15 magazines are available in Black, Dark Earth, Foliage and OD Green.   They are very hard to get at the moment but we have received a large shipment of PMAGs with windows and the 30rd MOE and M3 magazines.

Kimber Pepper Blaster II

With all of the crazy drugs people are on and how many zombie type things people take, you do have to consider that fact that less lethal weapons may not be the best option and carrying  a firearm is a better thing. One of our favorite options to suggest to people are the Kimber Pepper Blaster II devices because they are shaped like a firearm and can also be holstered like one.   I suggest carrying something like this as well as  a firearm because it gives you some  range and more accuracy than a stream spray and not the mess that a fog spray can make.  There is always the chance of blow back but the liabilities are less from a legal point.

Laser grips and laser sights

lasermax gripsRogue Elite is your webstore for Crimson Trace and Lasermax lasers. We are carrying Armilight and ARMS replacement sights for your favorite M4 or AR15 variant. We carry tactical lights and tactical lasers, red dot sights and C-More optics. Laser grips come in various styles for your Glock, Sig, Beretta, Taurus or Springfield XD handguns. There is much debate in the firearms industry about the use of laser grips.

It really comes down to your personal opinions. Our laser grips are one option or our Lasermax Hi-Bright are another. Both project a highly visible laser beam, but the formats are different. The Lasermax laser grips project from where the operating rod is and the Crimson Trace project from the actual grip. Each has their pros and cons. LaserMax LMS-1202 Tac Light w/laser Remington 870, 1100, 1187 Black Momentary Activation Switch is a popular option for that number one home defense gun, the shotgun. The LaserMax LMS-SA-GF Sabre Series Laser Black Frame Mount is another way of projecting.

Summer and Winter carry and when do paddle holsters work?

fobus holstersThere are some really big differences between each type of paddle holster and not all kydex qualities are the same.   I’m not a big fan of kydex holsters that don’t have metal clips.  I tested out a few styles and most of them failed.   Even with a good gun belt some holsters will eventually wiggle off the guy when you are crouched in certain positions.  I had a Sig 239 pop off a belt when I was bending over and that caused serious concern.  All of the Law Enforcement officers in our store have caused for concern about having guns that don’t have sturdy holsters securing them and for Police, getting  killed by your own gun is something that statistics show does happen.  There is a level 2 holster from Fobus that is a thumb drive design.

The Fobus DB series of holsters is a thumb drive holster that also can be locked and this prevents anyone from just being able to hit the release button and then pull the gun out.  In a recent discussion with Fobus holsters about expanding our product line, we got feedback from corrections officers and prisoner transports.  They informed us that it’s not that uncommon for bad guys to already have handcuff keys or to know how to pick handcuff locks and many of those same people are going to know how to release a Safariland retention holster or a Blackhawk Level 2  holster.   Level 3 is a life saving holster design and one that gives lots of confidence.

Eotech magnifier reviews

Eotech magnifiersEotech now has a Gen 3 magnifier and I can’t personally say that it’s better than the Gen 2, but I’ve never had them in combat or broke one, or saw one break for that matter.  I really love my Gen 2 and get a lot of use out of it.  The biggest downside to the Eotech magnifiers are that once you buy the two item you basically dropped as much cash as the Trijicon ACOGS least expensive models.   I’ve shown people the Trijicon TA44’s we have in stock and they act shocked when I tell them they are over $900.  The customer then tells me that they can’t afford one so they go with an Eotech.  The TA44 is kind of in between the red dot and an Eotech due to it’s circle dot reticle.

Much of the search for an optic is about preference and the job you want to get done.  Red dots are nice but my eye picks up the Eotech sights much better and the Eotech Magnifiers give me that medium range shooting ability that allows my skills to come out.   I find that Eotech sights perform their best out to 200yds and after that, they are somewhat limiting due to the lack of clarity of the circle and dot.  The way to combat this issue is to use a lower setting on the sights.  I run a 516 with the magnifier which is the best platform for me needs.  It is slightly shorter on the rail and gives me more room for a pressure switch which I will be placing on it.

Get a good sharpener when you buy a knife!

timberline knivesRogue Elite is your source for combat, self-defense, military and rescue knives. Select from your favorite manufacturer for the knife the suits your purposes. Tactical knives are useful tools and those that feel the need to carry them while working, camping, or for law enforcement or military can tell you. And don’t forget that there’s no do it all knife just like there is no do it all self defense weapon or tool. Folding knives, multi tool knives, long knives, short knives, Military knives, bayonets, tomahawks and rescue knives, we’re the place to shop. Spyderco knives, Kbar knives, Colt Steel knives, SOG Knives, Timberline knives, Kershaw, knives and Columbia River knives to name a few.

You usually get what you pay for so when you are shopping for a knife, make sure you put some thought into what you are using it for so you don’t have to buy a knife 2x’s because you broke it when you should have used something stronger.   We  have plenty of EMS personnel that stop in our store that don’t want to drop more than $40 on a knife and we sell a lot of the Timberline Knives we sell move pretty fast.  The ECS Safety Cutter is also a big hit as well as the ECS knife.  One thing about the Timberline knives you might want to think about doing is getting a good sharpener because their knives tend to not come with an edge.  The Timberline knife sharpening kits are also less than $40.

2yrs of running with Smith Optics Elite Eyeshields

Smith Optics Elite eyeshieldsI’ve been through so many safety glasses that I’m really sure I put my money in the right place when I drop $85 for a Smith Optics Elite eyeshield kit.   I don’t have a need for the amber or yellow glasses but sometimes its nice to just run clear shields and not  have the sunglasses style.  On those dark over cast days you don’t want any light limitation. We’ve mostly had positive feedback on the Smith Optics Elite ballistic eyewear.   Every product line has a glitch or whoops but there have been very few of them from this product line  unlike some of the others we have dealt with.   Our main selling point with this ballistic eyewear are the warranties on the sunglasses because some people are afraid to drop $80-$125 if they know they can loose or break them.  Well, if you get fragmentation or they get cracked the lenses on the protective sunglasses are replaceable not the frames.

I went with the Aegis Compact eyeshields because they fit my head better and fit is just as important as clarity with something like this.  We’ve had a lot of junk, and cheap eyewear but those tend to not be as strong and the clarity usually deteriorates and fogging is always an issue with the cheap stuff.   My choice for the Smith Optics Elite eyeshields are the compact ARC field kits.   The Echo is pretty cool but seems to be more for guys wearing helmets or larger ear protection.  I’m good with my Ear Pros that only cost me less than $15 and are more comfortable than using foam ear plugs.  There is also an asian fit for people with wider noses so you may have to stop in and try them out so you know what fits you.
