Elite Survival Systems tactical gear and range and duty bags

Elite Survival BagsThe first thing we tell people when pushing this product line on our customers is that the majority of their gear is made in the US.   This is not that common of a thing in most gun shows.  I’ve been to enough gun shows to have a closet full of the less expensive tactical nylon gear, holsters, bags ect and there is a noticeable difference in the material.   When we compare even 5.11 tactical nylon gear from cell phone cases for Blackberries, I-phone case, we see the differences in the clasps and the stitching.   We have a lot of people looking for range bags and if you want something that stows all of your gear so you don’t forget it on your range trips.  Check out there medium range bag, it’s really an awesome bag.

With about a 4yr relationship with this company they are are stable for Police Duty bags and even Department of homeland security and CIA and FBI customers.   The bags we stock are everything from Elite Survival bags for storing firearms like the M4 Roller or the Double agent dual rifle case.  This is  a great gun case for 3 gun shooters.   The Messenger bag is being used by many in the State Police as well as Fire and EMS personnel do to  the waterproof compartment that the bag has built into it. Utility pouches, Flight bags and hydration systems all in use and were even featured with some at the US Open here in Haverford Township.

Don Hume gun holsters, what’s the appeal?

Don Hume HolstersI was shocked at how many people were calling us 2yrs ago over these Don Hume holsters and I’m still uncertain as to when the good reviews about this product line took off but it must have been fairly recently.  There are some good Concealed Carry magazine reviews out there as well as many bloggers that post reviews, test, and long term evaluations about products but it’s rare to see a run on production line like this.  I picked out a few holsters for myself but avoided the leather inside the waist because I had some issues using leather gun holsters in the Pennsylvania summer heat and moved on to kydex.   We did have a recent issue with one of their holsters starting to peel it’s finish after just a few days of use, but I think that was a situational issue where the user was wearing  a seat belt that wore the finish off in 24hrs.

Things like that can  happen with any product if it’s put to adverse or stressed situations and every piece of gun gear or tactical gear will fail at some point.   These are very stiff holsters and like all leather holster, not just Don Hume holsters there is always going to be a bit of a break in period.  I wouldn’t get too worked up about this because it’s good that the holster has some break  in period s0 it properly forms around the gun.   A very common  problem with kydex holsters is they will start to rattle and even some Glock guns will not work in kydex holster depending on whether it’s Gen 2 Glock or a Gen 4 glock.   Don Hume inside and belt loop holsters are a great way to conceal carry firearms without blowing a hole in wallett.

What’s up with Glock magazines?

Glock Factory magazinesWe just  noticed that some of our distributors have closeouts on many of the Glock Factory magazines which tells us something else is coming about.   We’ve had lots of people complain about the various Generations of Glock pistols being finicky with various gun holsters because there are slight differences with them but enough to cause holsters to not work, whether you have a Glock 19 or Glock 17.  There have been issues with some of the Fobus holsters and the Fobus E2 holsters are really the thing you need to get because there is some flexibility with their tension which accommodates different trigger guards.

Nobody buys after market magazines for Glocks unless you are using some funky watermelon killing 50rd magazine.   Reliability is going to be an issue unless you are using Glock Factory magazines and that’s really what we recommend.   Many guns are becoming more versatile with the back straps and with ambidextrous designs which makes outfitting a department that much easier.  If only someone would make an ambidextrous holster for Duty guns.  Glock really is king of the hill for Law Enforcement and I don’t see that going away anytime soon.  The Glock 21 seems to be really getting traction here in Pennsylvania among the Upper Darby Police Department and the Pennsylvania State Police.

I love my 1911s but chose not to carry

Every once in awhile I have broken out some of my first handguns just to make sure they were cleaned and lubricated, but now that I have switch to using more modern lubricants like Slip 2000,  I have a lot of confidence that the lube is going to stay on there and I don’t need to check on them as much as I did with BreakFree CLP.    I’ve learned that over cleaning does more damage than under cleaning and have learned to treat my combat handguns and rifles with that respect.    My Colt 1991A1 is still my favorite handgun even thought I chose to stop carrying in almost a decade ago.   Last night I broke it out and practiced trigger control by using a pencil with a good eraser so it could be used in a training exercise I from a World War II and Korean Vet.

Using a pencil I would load it through the barrel and fire it like a rocket by using the rubber eraser that reacted to the firing pin striking it.   This type of hammer/firing pin design works well with this but I removed all Chip McCormick Magazines from the room and tripple racked the slide to make sure it was clear and safe.   The Trigger on my 1911 could afford to drop a few pounds but I still love the way it feels in my hands.   The only down side to the 1911 in my book is the slider release safety.   I know several people that agree with me and since moved on to Sig Sauer handguns for CCW. Chip McCormick magazines
