Thinking about another AR15 upper?

I would definitely suggest you consider a MOE configuration for your AR.   Magpul is the #1 AR15 magazine parts and accessories manufacturer and  as far as I know they all of their products are Made in the USA.   I have had to force myself to actually think about that recently after several people walked in our shop and were asking about the knives and clothing we sold and asked if they were Made in the  USA.   Sadly so much is not made in this Country anymore but there is definitely a trend away from China but hopefully it won’t turn into an all our trade war.

If people work in the Law Enforcement community or understand the economics of the gun industry and our present economic situation it is important to look into buying things made in the US.  When it comes to AR15 rifles, Magpul accessories are what you are going to want to put on your  gun and know you aren’t dressing down your firearms with made in China crap.   There is a certain pool of shooters though that just want save the money for good stuff and rarely have an item last.  The Magpul MOE can help you lighten and customize a firearm even more without wasting rail space and needing to put rail covers on all of that un-used space.

Magpul Pmags, testing reliability after you run it over with a truck!

I often refer to some really good AR15 magazine tests online where guys have posting information on YouTube  and other places of how durable these Magpul PMAGs are.   I’m still waiting for someone to start making gun magazines like this for handguns, and I’m sure that will happen someday, it’s only a matter of time.   I was never a big fan of the AR15 gun because I’ve seen so many of them jam on firing ranges, but that was almost 12yrs ago and I think the AR15 is  now an outstanding firearm if you are using PMAGs.  We’ve shipped so many of them to law enforcement that are using them and now many active military use them.

There are a few variations of the PMAGs and I have only ever heard of one recall on them, but as far as I know, there haven’t many very many changes in them.   There was a very slight change recently, but not a huge one.   There is no reason to keep your GI Mags in your firearm when Magpul PMAGS have been on the playing field long enough to know they are worth their weight in gold. There are things  you can do to the magazines to get them to fit your needs like putting mag assists on the bottom of them.  These can be had in the rubber removable kind or by removing the floor plate and putting the range floor plates on them.  Be advised that these will cause the magazines to protrude and you have to make sure your mag pouches will work with this.

How many mags do i need for a handgun?

pistol magazinesBack when the 1994 assault weapons ban was into effect there were more headaches in the gun world due to the fact that factory handgun magazines were so expensive.   People cut corners with other brands and had issues.    When it comes to owning a handgun, especially an auto, I highly recommend having atleast 3 magazines.    Not only can guns malfunction,  but magazines do wear out and break at some points and its always good to have some extra comfort if one goes down.    Most of the time it’s the floor plates that come loose and a loaded mag will just dump rounds on the ground.   I’ve seen it happen with rifles and handguns.    If you ever run a Carbine course, you’re defanitely going to want to have atleast 3 mags for your pistol, too.

It’s very rare these days that I work as a firearms instructor but I still work with a lot of people that are just getting into carrying firearms for the first time. I must admit that I made a lot of the novice mistakes in buying holsters and accessories when i first started carrying, and sometimes its nice to give first hand accounts of what NOT to do.    I’ve seen a lot of people pick up a good quality handgun and then completely ruin the firearms reputation by using 3rd rate pistol magazines that jammed the gun  up.   The 2nd most common thing I see are people shooting with cheap ammo.   I don’t get the whole Wolf handgun ammo thing.   I own and shoot many Com-block rifles and the Wolf ammo works flawlessly, but I have never had good experiences with their handgun ammo.

Evolution of firearm magazines

Rifle MagazinesDirect Impingement firearms have a questionable existance in the military industry since the design is more than 60yrs old, but the Magpul P-Mags have possible extended the life of them since the reliability of the magazines has also increased the reliability of the firearm.   Magpul P-Mags can take a beating and still run strong.   Check out some of the tests people have done with them on youtube.com

Rifle and pistol magazazines  have evolved as much as firearms have evolved in the last 100yrs.   They basically look the same, but they are stronger, more reliable and better thought out.   One of the  biggest advancements in firearm evolution were Glock Firearms.   The biggest evolution in rifle magazines are Magpul P-Mags.    There have been other similiar rifle  magazines made out of plastic, but the Magpul P-Mags are King.

Magpul PMAGS

Magpul PMagsThe PMAGTM (Polymer MAGazine) is a lightweight 5.56 NATO, M-16 compatible magazine. It features an advanced impact resistant polymer construction, a pop-off Impact Cover for storage, and an easy to dissasemble design with a flared floorplate for easy magazine extraction from pouches. PMAGTM utilizes a resilient stainless steel spring for corrosion resistance.

The MagLevel PMAGTM features transparent windows on both sides of the body and has a painted indicator on the spring for quick determination of approximate rounds remaining in the Magpul PMAGS

Our latest revision has been updated with a new body ribbing design which allows for better compatibility with aftermarket mag couplers, a new follower which gives even smoother loading with military stripper clips, and the Impact Cover can now be snapped onto the Floorplate when not in use to prevent possible loss. The MagLevel now has even larger windows than before and includes a black-oxide coated spring for increased contrast with the painted indicator.
