Getting the edge in the apparel market

Tactical PantsElite Operator Tactical has made high quality tactical pants in cotton canvas and lightweight 100% cotton ripstop.   They have a concealed carry or discreet line of apparel that is also expanding in 2010, but the tactical market door just got kicked open from someone other that 5.11 Tactical.    Sign up for our Rogue Elite.net email mailing list for promtions and feel free to give us your feedback on one of the most anticipated items this year.

Eotac just launched there new tactical pants specifically designed for women.   We have been waiting for almost a year for these to hit the market, and after several delays, they are finally arriving.   The Style 702 Womens pants are now available in Khaki and OD Green.  These tactical pants are designed specifically for women and something very original.

What’s the difference

Tactical PantsThe new apparel company named Eotac has been out for over a year and we have noticed the Style 202 pants are slightly lighter weight and don’t feel as heavy as the Woolrich Elite version.   We have had virtually zero customer complaints about the durability of these pants and they don’t feel as baggy in the seat.   There are also differences in the cargo pockets.   Many people are asking what the difference is between all of these products because they are very similiar.   The rear wallet or ID pockets on the Eotac pants are easier to access and have an easier to access pull tab to open it.  The cargo pockets are all bellowed which makes them hold more, although they are not like BDU cargo pockets.

Woolrich Elite products have been on the market for about 4yrs now and they make some very well made products.  Pants like the 4429 are heavy weight than the 5.11 Tactical equivalent and they don’t shrink like 5.11 pants do.   I’ve heard a great many people complaing about the quality and consistancy of the 5.11 tactical pants, and it seems that there pants are being made in atleast 3 different manufacturing places and this tells us they are having quality control issues.

Military Jacket for the modern CCW carrier

Tactical JacketWe we get into discussions with people that are looking for clothing that doesn’t make them look like they are carrying a gun, we listen to what the customer has to say and then we give them some options.   We realize that dressing all tactical and clipping a folding knife onto a front pocket is usually a giveaway, but there is more to think about other than “what if they think I look like I carry a gun”.    Well, how many times have you seen an Obama hippy pot smoking hippy with a camoflauge jacket on or cutoff camo pants?   Does he look like he’s easy prey for a robber?
If you are working the narcotics department and you don’t want to look like a cop or that you just walked out of boot camp, we understand, but being situationally aware is far more importantant than worrying about what other people think of you.     The Eotac Style 502 Field Jacket is a modernized CCW tactical jacket that has that vintage look, especially if you go for that lizard patter camo.   The pockets are designed for carrying modern flashlights, phones, knives ect and won’t be as clumsy to use compared to military surplus jackets.   Check out the Style 103 Field vest also that is basically the same desing, but without sleeves.    One thing you have to remember about this jacket though is it is a jacket and not a coat, it is also not a firearms retention device and not meant to carry a large gun in the pockets.   We do get customers that order these and seem to think that because it is a CCW style jacket that it means you can put a gun in it.   We’d recommend worrying about a different holster design than trying to conceal a firearm in this.

Tactical Vests as a range bag

How many times have you gone to the range for a day and forgot your sight in tools?   How many times did you forget ear plugs?  How many times did you forget the following, gloves, batteries, targets, screwdrivers and on and on.   Well this Eotac Style 101 vest has so many pockets that if you don’t keep your stuff organized you’ll lose it in the vest.  If you do keep your gear organized and assign each pocket for specific tools and practice,  the next time you walk out the door to go shooting, you’ll have all of your neccessities in your vest that you always bring with you.   You can even keep empty or loaded mags in it and have it become your active shooter bag for civillian SHTF purposes.

Sometimes I hear people snicker when they hear Tactical VestTactical Vest.   I guess its because so many of us have stories about the guy that shows up at a gun range and is ready for the tactical ninja battle of his life, but can’t shoot for ____.   He’s wearing all black, has a low end AR15 with a red dot on it and isn’t grouping his shots very well.   For those that are in law enforcement, we think about SWAT Teams or special operations.   Well, there’s another application for tactical vests.   A place to put all of your shooting accessories that goes to the range with you and it’s on you at all times.

Our best firearm instructor shirt

Tactical ShirtsThe real reason we love this shirt so much is how often we get out in cool mornings and by late morning we’re dying of heat and sometimes we just want to tear our shirt off.   The back of the shirt is vented so even though this is not super lightweight material it can breath pretty well and the zipper can add a more professional look while zipped down when you want to cool off.  This is hands down our #1 seller to firearms instructors for the look and applications.

One of our favorite tactical shirts right now is the Eotac 401 zip up short sleeve shirt.   The reason we like this shirt so much is simple, instead of having a full button up shirt, this shirt has a pull down zipper that makes it very useful for people that are putting in long hours on training courses.   Granted, the shirt was designed for multiple applications, and it does have a very concealed carry appeal to it because you could technically wear a shoulder holster under this shirt and access your firearm via a quick zip down of the shirt.

Tactical Pants for Women

Eotac ClothingEotac is about to launch their first run on their 702 Lightweight tactical pants for women.   For women that work in the security forces or for law enforcement, this will be something to get your hands on.   Many women working in this line of work usually are forced to find men’s tactical clothing that fits them well enough to get through the day.    We’ve heard from a lot of women that wore other tactical women’s pants and the complaints are still coming in.

Elite Operator Tactical or mostly known as Eotac, are an aggressive new tactical apparel company that are backed by the Corporation Cerebus that owns Remington, DPMS, Bushmaster and even Marlin Firearms.   There’s a pretty good chance that Eotac will be the primary competitor to 5.11 Tactical in the coming years.   We are expecting the Style 702 Women’s Operator Grade Lightweight Tactical Pants to be coming in in late March or early April 2010.   These pants went through extensive testing and designing and considering the Men’s line of Eotac clothing, we’re expecting great things from Eotac that are meant for Women in the coming years.

Serving a purpose

Vickers GlovesReasons for wearing gloves are as numerous as reasons people wear a shirt, pants, vests or jacket.   We have jeans and sneakers for one situation and a suit and tie for others.    A citizen carrying a gun won’t want to look like a Cop and everyone knows that Police wear uniforms most of the time.   Gloves can be used to keep hands warm in the Fall, and other gloves are heavier for Winter weather.   Tactical gloves can mean fingerless gloves, but fingerless gloves might be hunting gloves.

Well here’s one more stick in the fire.   What kind of glove do you need to be able to load bullets in a magazine and still be able to pick up a quarter, open doors and not get your finger caught in the trigger guard on your AR15? How many of your regular hunting gloves or winter gloves will hold up?  Larry Vickers Gloves are known in the firearm industry and the new Duty gloves are not as long as the Vickers Mid-length gloves, but they have the same durability and feel.    I think it takes some time to get use to wearing gloves while operating a firearm, but for $30 these are a great option to have in your range bag or tactical vest.

Fit and manueverability

Tactical PantsEotac has several pants styles that may look like 5.11 knock offs or something that you thought you saw coming from Woolrich Elite a few years ago, but the reality is you will feel the difference in manueverability and flexability when you’re wearing them.   We had a few customers say they preferred a competitors pants since they had more room in them for sitting and kneeling, but the reality is Eotac Pants were stitched and designed so the pants move with the body and they were designed for operators that are getting off the ground and working from standing, kneeling and squatting.  Think about all of the firing positions an operator with a Carbine can get in, now try doing that with Levi’s jeans, 5.11 pants, Woolrich Elite and then try it with the Eotac Pants and get back to us.

We’ve been able to watch the tactical clothing market grow over the last decade and we’ve seen big companies go from owning the business to dealing with real competition.   Due to the nature of the War on Terror, there is demand for clothing that is not BDU looking but has lots of uses for military and combat purposes.   Tactical Pants aren’t just about what they can hold.   Everyone has a different idea of what they need for their job, but putting tons of gear in your pockets can be done with a pair of pants that just has big pockets.

Concealment, Comfort and the tactical appeal

Tactical VestsEveryone has there taste and styles in firearms and even some have their preferences in the type of ammunition and bullet weights.   Some operators prefer to dress in black and prefer to look as tactical as possible while others just can’t figure out why they would need a tactical vest in the first place.   Some tactical vests are about as comfortable as strapping on a parachute and not always modernized.

The Eotac Style 101 Tactical vest is probable the most versatile and sensible vests you will get your hands on.   The pockets are designed for modern weapons and gear and that is something you will want to research before you spent $75-$200 for the other styles out there.   Some of the tactical vests made by Sig Tac and 5.11 weren’t designed for Magpuls and that is only something you’ll find out whenever you’re getting serious about the gear you have.   If you are training or using modern Magpul magazines with the magpul, you’ll basically make any older style vest useless if you can’t close the magazine pocket.   The Eotac vest has extended velcro designs that will allow you to easily adapt the flap to standard 30rd AR magazines or Magpuls.

Work shirts for concealment

Tactical ShirtsIt doesn’t get any better than this for those of you working in the blue collar neighborhoods or that actually could get away with wearing one of these at work.   The Eotac Style 409 Mechanic shirt is one of the most original concealment and tactical shirts we’ve seen this year.   There are plenty of uniform tactical shirts out there from 5.11, Woolrich Elite, Proper ect. but this one takes concealment into a different niche.

The Eotac Mechanic shirt can make you look like a pizza delivery person, auto mechanic or a plumber or you can customize a name and sew it onto the shirt.    These are great ways to blend in or upgrade your traditional work clothes for tactical shirts that make accessing a firearm much easier.   The two lower buttons on the shirt are fall and with a quick motion of the hand the shirt will lift up and reduce the chances of snagging on anything will retrieving your weapon.  The Mechanic concealment shirt comes in Black, Gray and Navy.
