This year was a very successful year for us in the Delaware County area in launching our tactical store and we double the size of our business in the first 6 months. People are still finding out about us via word of mouth whenever they need a new holster, police boots or even just Ambulance companies hiring and people needing to get a pair of pants. Much of the product line we stock in our store is for people to checkout instead of buying it online. Duty gear like handcuff keys and various police belts are things that people in the Law Enforcement industry lose or wear out over time and are always in need of. Police vests, tactical pants, uniform pants, belts, hydration unites, SWAT team bags are things that are always wearing out and need to be replaced.
We’ve learned there are so many types of handcuffs, swivel and hinged doesn’t always narrow it down, some are different weights and types of metal. The items we have brought in this year are the Safariland lightweight handcuffs and in our region there are no Philadelphia Police Supplies shops around here and many of our Law Enforcement Officers are very happy to see a business like this open up. Tactical vests, body armor are all things people need to be sized up on and this is something that has to be done right so that there are fewer returns. We stock a large number of Blackhawk serpa holsters, safariland products, pepper spray, mace, tasers, batons, police badge holders and more and more duty gear.
We’ve sold a lot of outwear over the years and the Woolrich Elite Concealed Carry Chino and the SigTac jackets are going to be missed because they were all very well made items but somehow those companies just couldn’t compete in the tactical apparel world. I’ve not seen a SigTac jacket in years but people still and ask us what happened to them. There are a few links out there that direct people to us from gun forums but they are badly outdated. The Woolrich Elite Series tactical barn coat that is another item that was well liked but fell off the production line very early. 5.11 tactical has some nice stuff but they have gotten expensive and plenty of people have fallen off the 5.11 wagon just based on price increase.
When it comes to concealed carry jackets, well, there aren’t too many companies that are going to mass product something like that because there are so many firearms that designing a jacket around that isn’t really cost effective. If you want a very useful tactical jacket, the TruSpec softshell jackets are a very big hit and we have been selling them with the American Flag patch which gives them a cool yet patriotic look. These softshell jackets are going to be tight against your body but they have access points so you can still get in to your gear or guns. We’ve had several customers come in our store that said it’s the most versatile jacket they own because it’s something you can wear in the Fall or Winter or even a mild summer day that will help keep you dry.
There are a lot of things we learned in the last year about the Law Enforcement Community and sometimes its the small things that people want in your store and not the fancy stuff. There are plenty of times we go to places like Youtube.com to watch the products that we sell to try and learn how to use them or to market them. You can only read so much about a product but if you don’t know how something is used, certain terminology about a backpack might just confuse you. There are so many differences between all of the bags we sell and sizes are something people have a hard time explaining. The differences between the Rush 24 and Rush 72 5.11 bags is significant and sometimes people don’t know which one they want until they hold it in their hands.
Police Officers loose handcuffs and handcuff keys all the time and sometimes that 20yrd old holster needs to be retired. We know have a Law Enforcement inventory and we are doing everything from Blackington badges and whatever else Philadelphia Law Enforcement Supplies like Safariland holsters, Blackhawk Serpa holsters and all of the pepper spray and batons that are used. We have a pickup on location option on our website and stock a good bit of AR15 upper receivers and Magpul accessories. Our Smith Optics Elite ballistic eyewear was used in the US Open here in Merrion and we are looking forward to bringing on even more products this Summer and Fall.
Not only have we finished setting up our new tactical shop here in Broomall, we are getting setup for the Fall outwear promo with TruSpec. This year Gunny will be releasing his own tactical pant from TruSpec and we were happy to hear that this tactical pants has a gussetted crotch. This has probable the only consistent complaint we got about the TruSpec pants. They really are comfortable to wear and the pockets are very unique. The material designs make it an easy transition from 5.11 tactical pants to the TruSpec design because they are both a polyester cotton blend. Its hard to find places to try stuff like this on but now we have a location here in Southeaster Pennsylvania.
Tru Spec has a big 2 month long outerwear promotion going on from October 1st to November 30th and it will be a good time to stop in early October to get the best deals and selections. There aren’t too many places to tryout things like this and Philadelphia Police and Security Supplies doesn’t usually mean that you are selling tactical pants. Many stores that market that mostly deal with uniforms and the like but we are a full stocking dealer for Tru spec pants, jackets, vests, shorts and jackets. We are located in the Broomall Industrial Park just right off of 476 South. We are open Tuesday- Friday 12am-6pm and Saturday’s 10am-5pm.
April 1st we began our venture into new territory with the TruSpec 24/7 series of tactical clothing. When we scanned around and looked into what tactical clothing companies looked viable in this bad economy, it took us just a few quick moments to see that TruSpec has a good grip on marketing their products and the diversity of the product line gave us an open door into a new market. The TruSpec 24/7 tactical pants are very different in design than the 5.11 tactical pants that so many have pretty much copied. Trying to discern the difference between them from a few feed away is hard.
The poly cotton ripstop material gives more resistance to stains and also almost no need to have to iron your pants. This may be a non-issue for some people but for others the tru spec 24 7 tactical pants that we are carrying are a much better quality and fit than the 5.11 counter parts. 5.11 has turned into such a giant that selling watches and flashlights has exceeded it’s desire to sell quality clothing. When it comes to oursourcing manufacturers of clothing 5.11 makes a mess for itself by out sourcing to 3 different Countries. TruSpec owns their own factories and has a very consistent fit.
There are a bazillion types of tactical pants out there and the funny thing about it is we have a huge customer base that aren’t even in the Law Enforcement or Military Community. Most Cops are stuck wearing uniforms and most of our customer base that actually buy tactical clothing, tactical shirts, tactical vests and gun gear usually know what they are looking for. Recently we sold a ton of ballistic eyewear to an EMS department and several of the Doctors working in local hospitals also stopped in to buy tactical pants. We explained to them what the pocket designs were for and they explained to us that they use them for holding surgical tools.’
There are not a lot of people out there that can really make a good concealed carry pant. Several have tried only to end up on the clearance section of LA Police gear as tactical pants. Not all of the tactical pants are used for carrying AR15 gun magazines. Some are for holding cell phones and even the Woolrich Elite 44447 pants can hold a small lap top computer. Most pocket designs are about preference although there are a few pants that are completely over thought out and all you end up doing is losing gear in them. Some pocket locations can also become useless if you normally carry a holster in that location. Leg holsters can also void the use of some cargo pockets.
