Save money on larger quantities of gun cleaning supplies

Although we sell these gun cleaning kits and accessories to gun cleaning, everyone at Rogue Elite is a gun owner and a shooter.   We all started out with Hoppes gun cleaning kits that were 3 piece cleaning rods and all have our stories about how we had to air the house out because we spilled cleaning fluids on the floor.   Gun cleaning has gotten simpler although our amount of interest in cleaning may not have changed.   Hoppes bore snakes have made cleaning semi-auto guns like the Mini 14 or M1 Garand much easier due to the designs of the guns and that traditional cleaning rods might damage these.   The Otis gun cleaning kits are compact and portable and extremely versatile.

Mpro-7 gun cleaning spray bottles have really over taken Break Free products even though you are doing a 2 step cleaning plan.  The Breakfree CLP is a pretty darn good for gun cleaning supplies because its basically an all in one product, but it’s biggest drawback is that it does need to be shaken all the time and it does not last as long as the Mpro-7 gun oil the LPX.   You will be able to tell the difference when you cycle the slide on a firearm when you use the M-Pro7 gun oil.

If there is a faster way to clean a revolover…

Please show me how I can clean a revolver faster than if I were using a boresnake?   I’ve got several boresnakes that are showing a good bit of wear, but they are still getting the job done on cleaning my rifles and I don’t even think they have gotten to their half life yet.   Just wash them in the wash machine if they start to show signs they are getting too slimy.   The only difference between the pistol and rifle bore snakes is the length and although you can still use a rifle boresnake but it may flop around a little too much.

I have always liked Hoppes boresnakes, but I recently dug out a Ruger GP100 that was a rack queen and took it to the range for a day.   I didn’t put that many rounds through it, but after spending years of range time with Glocks, XD’s and Sigs, it was fun to break out a .357 magnum and do a range  report.  The Hoppes Boresnakes that I have for my handguns have not been used that much, and when it came time to clean the gun, i popped open the cylinder, rang the bore snake through each hole, then the barrel and was trying to figure out what else I needed to do.   That was it!

Gun cleaning should be easier

hoppes boresnake I realize there is still a place for using cleaning rods to clean out the barrels of a rifle or pistol, and that running a white cleaning patch through a firearms and having it come out just as white is something that tells us our job is done.   Gun cleaning has gotten easier over the years.   If you are cleaning your firearms after each use, there is no need to be sitting there for hours and soaking your rifles in this cleaner and that cleaner and they running through the routine 2x’s.   Gun lubrication  has taken long strides in practically eliminating the need for having to use more than 2 gun cleaning liquids.   The really issue I see is in having a lubrication that also has preservatives to help protect metal from rust.   I have some friends that use Mobil 1 for all of there AR15 lubrication, but Mobil 1 doesn’t protect a firearm as well as BreakFree CLP does.

I’ve been talking to some of my friends about the issue of gun cleaning equipment.  One of them told me that he only owned a few rifles and there wasn’t a need for getting any fancy gun cleaning kits.   I asked  him how he cleaned his lever action rifles and he said it was a pain to clean because he had to clean it from the muzzle end unlike his bolt action.   I explained to him that Hoppes boresnakes cost less than $20 and he could run it through his lever action in seconds and not have to worry about cleaning patches ect.  I clean my hunting rifles even if I don’t fire them.  Ever since the time I brought a couple guns with me on a hunting trip, didn’t get anything, came home and put them back in the safe and then took them out 3 months later and found rust all over them, I’ve paid close attention to the gun cleaning equipment I use.

After a day of practice

Hoppes BoresnakeOne of the things that many gun collectors experience is what its like to take their collection to the range for a day and then shoot, then having to come home and clean everything.   I remember the times I’ve attending State or regional events and took more than a few handguns or rifles.  Some people like to take their time cleaing up their firearms and might let them sit for a few weeks before they get to them.   Some people practically break their guns down and clean them before they get cold.

After taking a few new shooters to the range today,  I didn’t worry about how much time I’d spend when I got home.   The Hoppes Boresnake is a breeze to clean with.   I tend to clean the barrels of all of the rifles I shoot immediately after I get home and cleaning a 22LR bolt action or semi-auto can be done in no more than 10 minutes.   I’d recommend using BreakFree CLP and a 22 Caliber Boresnake and you really won’t need more than 2 or 3 cleaning patches to clean the bolt.

Speed up the process

Hoppes BoresnakeBoresnakes have been around for a long time, but it still amazes me at the number of people that aren’t aware of them.   The notion of needing a long rod to clean your rifle bore is so out dated.   I guess it’s mostly the guys that operate the AR15 type of firearms that really pay attention to how much time it takes to clean a rifle that they are the ones that don’t want to go through the hassle.   The only way around not needing to clean an AR15 so much is to swap your upper out for a pistol version.

Hoppes boresnakes are easy to store and use.  All you do is drop the metal end down the chamber and putt it out of the barrel at the other end.   If you clean a lot, you will want to wash your boresnake, but you don’t have the mess of cleaning patches that cleaning rods create.   The Hoppes Boresnake will brush and swab your barrel in seconds.   You may want to soak the chamber or barrel with cleaning solvent before you drop the boresnake in, especially if you are cleaning for accuracy.
