Practicing drawing from cover

CCW VestThere are multiple ways of carrying a firearm concealed.   Each of them may be good for a certain environment, but one way may not work for all situations.   Sometimes people get too caught up in one manor of concealment and the reality is that we should probable consider atleast 2 or 3 ways of concealing the same firearm.   When I was at a Defensive Pistol course a few years ago, we were asked to bring a concealment garment to practice drawing our firearm.    The majority of us didn’t show up with pocket pistols for the Class and having something that would work for a full size auto was difficult.

Some jackets will work fine for winter work, but summer concealed carry is a different animal.  Wearing a vest in the summer can make  you stand out, but it can also help you fit in depending on the enviroment.   Just like the debates about which gun is better a Glock or a 1911, you have to be smart about what your carrying and understand how it functions and if it works for you.   A CCW vest like the Elite Operator Tactical Style 102 vest has a generous cut and will hang well over your belt line to conceal a full size auto like a Glock 17, Beretta 92FS or Sig 226.   A lot of the students that took the class with me all used these and they worked well.

Work shirts for concealment

Tactical ShirtsIt doesn’t get any better than this for those of you working in the blue collar neighborhoods or that actually could get away with wearing one of these at work.   The Eotac Style 409 Mechanic shirt is one of the most original concealment and tactical shirts we’ve seen this year.   There are plenty of uniform tactical shirts out there from 5.11, Woolrich Elite, Proper ect. but this one takes concealment into a different niche.

The Eotac Mechanic shirt can make you look like a pizza delivery person, auto mechanic or a plumber or you can customize a name and sew it onto the shirt.    These are great ways to blend in or upgrade your traditional work clothes for tactical shirts that make accessing a firearm much easier.   The two lower buttons on the shirt are fall and with a quick motion of the hand the shirt will lift up and reduce the chances of snagging on anything will retrieving your weapon.  The Mechanic concealment shirt comes in Black, Gray and Navy.

Military style jacket adapted to modern times

Eotac Field JacketI’ve seen a few military style jackets at Army Navy type stores, but most wearers are using them just for the look, but not because they really use it for any practical purpose.   There are some military style jackets that have good outdoor applications, but recently the very innovative and emerging tactical apparel company called Eotac, has developed something new.   The Eotac 502 Field Jackets is far superior to the Woolrich Elite Algerian jacket that has been on the market for a few years.   Both jackets are based on the Algerian style military jacket issued in the 1950’s.

The Eotac field Jackets has snap on pocket encosures and not velcro or as some like to call it, hook and loop.   I never thought this was much a thing to worry about, but several of our military and law enforcement customers have informed us that velcro wears out and is also very loud.   We didn’t thik about that, but the developers of the Eotac line obviously did.  The Field Jacket arm length is also properly designed.   All of us are build differently and not every shirt or jacket is going to work for everyone just because we have the same chest measurements, but we feel the Elite Operator Tactical Field Jacket is much better designed.  The 501 is also available in the Lizard Patter Camo that many of the original Algerian jackets came in.  The zippered sleeve pocket on the Field Jacket has a pen pocket and can hold something as large as a note pad or blackberry.  You will be able to carry just about any configuration of magazines, flashlights, knives, pepper spray ect. once you get use to all of the pockets, just be careful you don’t loose your gear in this jacket because there are so many places to put your stuff.
