Tactical pants and your wallet

Eotac pantsThe Eotac Style 202 pants are basically an improved pocket design over the Woolrich Elite 4429 pants.  The Eotac 203 are similiar to Woolrich Elite 4441 and the Eotac 201 are similiar to the Woolrich Elite 4447 styles.    Each may look the same at first look, but try stuffing the pockets with various items and  you’ll quickly notice the design differences.   The ID pocket on the Eotac pants have a pull tab that make it easy to open the pocket and I have absolutely zero problems using my gear with this design.   The side cargo pockets are bellowed and although not as wide as BDU pants, you will be able to use these for mag dumps much easier.

The title may sound like we’re going to talk about the expense of various tactical pants, but this post is actually going to be about retrieving your wallet from your tactical pants.   When I first got into wearing tactical pants, I started out wearing the 5.11 stuff most people are introduced to.   I tended to feel like my wallet didn’t fit right in the rear pockets becaused they floated around too much.   The  next line of tactical pants I wore were the Woolrich Elite 4429 style and although they are very well made and the quality is there, I really thought the velcro ID pocket was a pain to use for a wallet.   I carry a few credit cards, but I have a lot of business cards and other type of ID that I carry and my wallet is probable thicker than 3/4 of operators.   After I found out about Eotac pants, and the fact that the original designers of the Woolrich Elite series clothing are the present designers of the Eotac apparel, I gave them a try.

Time for a change

tactical pantsFor most of the United States, we are moving towards warm weather.   It’s time for us to think about our summer CCW and for those of us that were tactical apparel for work, time to switch to lightweight tactical pants.    The military learned this the hard way in the Pacific Theatre during WWII.   Wearing the wrong type of clothing in certain environments can mean freezing to death or unneccessary sweating.   We don’t recommend wearing shorts in the winter for obvious reasons, but sometimes we still need to wear pants even though it’s pretty darn hot out.

A few weeks ago we had to clear out a field for work and even though we’re in the early season for poison ivy, it’s still sprouting in various places.   It was in the upper 80’s that day, but we couldn’t wear shorts without risking contamination or even certain bug bites.   The Eotac tactical pants in Style 203 are made in the exact same pocket pattern as the Style 202 and are similiar in design to the  Woolrich Elite 4429 and 4441 pants.   These have a gussetted crotch which gives the user more movement and durability.   100% cotton ripstop means half the weight of regular tactical pants and all of the same pocket designs that give it such usefullness.

When it’s that hot

Tactical PantsWhen it’s that hot out that your risking dehydration, you seriously need to consider the type of clothing you are wearing.   Those wearing body armor or carrying more gear than the usually CCW gun owner need as many pockets as possible.  Trading your tactical pants in for tactical shorts that have almost the same pocket designs is hard to find.    There is also a very diverse opinion on the inseams of the shorts that people wear and there’s no real in between.

Eotac is now making their tactical shorts in a 7 1/2 inch inseam and a 9 inch.   The fit in the seat is the same as the pants and the hand pockets and back pocket designs are exactly the same.   There are no side cargo pockets, but the face of the shorts have the same useful pockets as all of the Eotac tactical pants.  You can put a 20rd AR15 magazine in this pocket or something like a Kimber Guardian.   The hand pockets have that deep wide design that can fit a large set of keys or firearm.   The lightweight cotton ripstop design will keep you as cool as you can possible be.

The one that doesn’t look like a fishing vest

CCW VestI’ve heard that line asked about 5 times a month.  You have to realize the number of people that carry guns in our society vs. the number that don’t.  I’d say that in most cases, 98% of people in our society aren’t looking to spot a CCW holder and won’t suspect that are unless that are sloppy at concealing it.  I highly recommend that most gun carries consider atleast 3 ways of carrying a firearm concealed.   In most parts of the Country people have to consider a warm weather and cold weather method, then there is always a reason to consider what method one could carry a full size auto.

You have to think about how to blend in with your environment.  If you are in an environment where people are always wearing vests, you’ll easily fit in.  But if you are at public event and it’s 95F out and you’re wearing anything more than a T-Shirt you’ll easily stand out.   The reality is who really cares if someone *thinks* you might be carrying.  Police carry openly and they still have to watch out for being targeted.   Be aware of your surroundings before you worry about incoming sniper fire while your using a CCW Vest for concealment.

IDPA Vest or CCW Vest Option

CCW VestOne of our biggest selling apparel item is the Eotac Style 102 Vest.   This vest is very similiar to the Woolrich Elite vest, but they are outselling them 3 to 1 these days.   The only real difference we see is the lack of a pen pocket on the upper left pocket which means absolutely nothing to our customers.   These have very low below the belt line and are  a great OWB or Paddle holster CCW vest.  You will easily be able to conceal a full size auto with one of these.   The Style 102 vest is made of 100% cotton ripstop and is a very, very lightweight concealment garment.

The front pockets are primarily for storing gear.   We have had a few customers misinterpret the use of the vest as a firearm retention device, but we strongly recommend against trying to hide a gun in the front pockets.   This material is lightweight and you will most likely print your firearm if carrying in that manor.   If you are taking a defensive class and looking for a concealment garment, this is an excellent CCW Vest.   Khaki is by far the most popular color and the sage is a very mild and casual color that goes well with tan or khaki pants.

Tactical Pants cut down

Tactical PantsMost of us that are in the industry are wearing some sort of tactical pants or ccw pants for most of the year.  When it gets into the summer months we have to think about losing some of the accessories and gear or having to sweat it out.   For most of the year, lightweight pants are a good option even if we know we’re going to be sweating it out, it’s good to have pants that can protect you from poison ivy or bug bites.

If have the ability to avoid wearing pants and we can get away with shorts, the fit and design of the Eotac lightweight tactical shorts are superior to anything we’ve worn from any other company.   I know 5.11 tactical pants some good stuff, but lets be honest, they’ve gotten pretty bad in the quality control department and i’ve had issues with their tactical shorts riding up in the crotch.   If this happens when we wear pants its one thing, but when your nuts are hanging of your shorts, it’s not very professional.   Due to demand, the style 301 shorts are made in a 9″ inseams and the 302 are a 7″1/2 inseam.   Ever body is going to prefer one over the other because were all  made differently.

Casual pants with a tactical appeal

Tactical PantsIf you are toting around a knife, flashlight, gun, keys and a wallet, you might find regular jeans are pretty stuffed in the pocket area.   If you have to tuck a shirt in you’ll be even more cluttered.   Many recommend avoiding the clip on knife in the pocket as a dead giveaway that you are carrying, so what do you do?   If you are familiar with the Eotac Style 204 cotton canvas pants, the Eotac style 205 concealed carry pants are identical but made in a jean fabric.

These tactical pants have a side leg pant pockets on each side that can hold a small J-frame, Kimber Guardian Angel, mace, G2 or scorpion size flashlight or just about whatever tool you want to carry in that size.   This is something to consider when doing a lot of driving or accessing gear while in the seated position.   From my experience the zippers are very secure and reliable.   The jeans are very comfortable and not the purplish blue that many of our customers complained about with a previous companies version.

As the weather warms up

Tactical ShirtsThe Style 403 has a single pocket on the upper left of the shirt that can hold sunglasses or lightweight gear.   See our sizing guide for your check and waste measurements.    These shirts tend to run a little longer to help conceal gear at the belt line.   Both the 403 and 4 pocket 404 shirt are available in Black, Natural, Light blue, Red and yellow.   I would recommend trying atleast 3 colors to add to your wardrobe.   With a shirt as lightweight like this, I wouldn’t hesitate to try the black shirts for summer carry.

Consider trying on one of the lightest weight conceal carry shirts you can wear.     The Eotac styles 403 and 404 Tropical shirts are as lightweight and breatheable as a t-shirt yet they are more stylish and appropriate for CCW than a Iron Maiden T-shirt at your cousins college graduation.   The front bottom button is  a false button and breaks open to make this CCW shirt a lightweight tactical shirt that allows you to access a firearm or gear without the fear of snagging.

Tactical Pants with a Warranty

Tactical PantsWell, one thing to think about when settling on an apparel line is this, how many of your tactical apparel companies are offering a Warranty like this:  “EOTAC’s products are of superior quality and come with a full warranty to the original owner. If our garment or accessory ever fails due to a material or manufacturing defect, even after extended use, we will repair the product, without charge, or replace it at our discretion. This warranty does not cover damage caused by accident, improper care, negligence, normal wear and tear, or the natural breakdown of colors and materials over time and use. Damage not covered under warranty will be repaired or replaced for a reasonable rate and a fee will be charged for return shipping. This warranty gives you specific legal rights; you may have other rights, which vary from state to state”

We deal with the crowd that actually gets down and dirty on the range and in the field when it comes to tactical clothing.    We probable get a couple phone calls a week from people mentioning they “blew the pants out at the range today” and then they name the tactical pants brand, the style ect.    The tactical apparel market has been exploding and we have to admit there are some good quality pants out there, but the price differences are pretty extreme.
