Novekse uppers in full form

Recently we attended the Contagion 2012 here in Pennsylvania at the new New Holland Rifle and Pistol club.  This was I believe the 5th year of the Contagion event and the 5th one we were sponsors at.  The beauty of events like this is its basically a please touch gun show.  You can ask shooters about the guns and gear they are towing around and and watch it in action.  So many times we watch people show up for the first time and have gear fail on them.  98% of the times we saw operator induced malfunctions but some times we saw optics fail.   There are guys with NCStar optics going up against Trijicon and Aimpoint optics and there has been a difference in performance.  There is a difference between plinking and hard use optics.

There has to be something said about mounting optics properly and using loctite on your optics so they don’t come loose.  The other thing we noticed is the guys that shot the most accurately at medium and longer ranges were using higher end AR15s or fitted with Noveske uppers who were also sponsors for the event.  The way that bolt carrier improvements have occurred so many firearms have become more reliable and have less use for high amounts of lubrication.  We’ve seen direct impingement AR15s perform as well as the LWRC M6A2 guns that were fielded that day basically because the guns, all guns have gotten better.

Are you having a hard time finding the AR15 upper that you want?

After seeing about a 4yr increase in sales of firearms, we’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that certain .380 pistol magazines, gun holsters and firearm accessories are going to be hard to get for a few more months.   Much of what is going on is an increase in firearm sales due to the social and political problems we are facing.  We have elected individuals to higher office that do not have traditional patriotic values and seeing them gain power is disturbing to anyone that understands the Constitution. Runs on emergency food storage and ammunition were the next things to go prices have increased with the demand.  We’ve seen more sales of higher end firearms and accessories because the cheap stuff was all gone.

We have backorders for AR15 uppers going back to November for Spikes Tactical, Daniel Defense, Smith & Wesson and many more.  The real issue is that many of the manfacturers are selling more complete guns and making AR15 upper receivers for sale is not something as important as selling a complete gun.  Many gun shops would rather sell guns than uppers.  If you having a hard time getting the uppers make sure you put your email in the “email me when back in stock” option on our website.  We do get in many uppers but the quantities are small and come in sporadically.   It’s a hard time for people building AR15s because there are some waiting periods if you know what you want.

Some feedback after finishing the Dean Caputo AR15 armorers course

It has been several decades now that I have been shooting firearms and we’re working on the second decade of military style semi-auto experience.   Some of the guns I have  owned in the last 10yrs are breaking down from time to time, but I’m still learning about the firearms. When something breaks,  its somewhat fun to learn about how a firearm was designed and how much trial and error went  into a firearms design before it was done right.   All of those little springs and detents probable came about after trying other things, but they are all very important parts of keeping  a firearm running.

Recently I had a stock come apart on my and the spring and detent fell out, I couldn’t find the stock wrench that I had so I had to pick up another one from Tapco.   It is now staying in my range bag,  I’ve had magazine failures and ammo failures, but getting the AR15 Armorers course gun dvds is a good gift or good thing to watch with your gun buddies.   There are good ideas on keeping gun parts and small compact gun tools around to keep your gun up and running or get it up and running when you’re at a range.   Something like a $1 spring can shut your gun down for the day if you weren’t prepared.

5.45×39 is still cheaper than 5.56

Just a reminder to all of you that forgot about that fact that 5.45×39 ammo is still cheaper than any of the 5.56 .   I have heard a lot of good things from our customers that have picked up the Smith & Wesson 5.45×39 upper, but I’m still not sold on it’s combat worthness.   Something about the direct impingement being dirt enough and how much worse is it going to get with that type of ammo?  One defense I’d have to make of the notion that semi-auto guns jam because they are dirty is something that I have never witnessed.   I have witnessed several handgun and AR15 malfunctions due to lack of lubrication, but I don’t know how much sludge you’re really going to end up  having if you put 1000rds through a 5.45×39 DI upper.

LWRC has recently put an AR15 upper that I am seriously considering to optain, as a matter of fact, Rogue Elite has just signed off on the papers to become a parts dealer for LWRC.   If you think having a piston driven gun means the gun is more reliable, well, I think you’ll get some pretty headed debates, but if you make the decision to pick  up any of the AR15 complete upper receievers that are piston driven, you will defanitely notice your gun is easy to clean and won’t take up 1/4 as much as you use to.   If you are a serious shooter, I would think that is worth spending the extra money for a piston conversion kit or a new piston upper.

Replacement parts are inevitable

Glock PartsWe all know that Glocks are tough, I won’t say they are the toughest because there are other guns out there that may be as tough, but they are in the top tier of firearms.    We know that everyone likes to talk and argue about all of the flaws in firearms and which guns are more reliable than others.  Some handguns are meant for concealment and are not combat worthy and aren’t expect to put 500rds through them without cleaning to function flawlessly.

The reality for all firearms, though, is they all will jam or break at some point.   All barrels wear out, all springs weaken,  all extractors will eventually wear and break and so will firing pins.   If you are a Glock owner, storing a few extra Glock Parts may be a good idea.   You have a combat worth firearm that is meant for brutal use, but having recoil springs, magazine springs, firing pins and extractors in your range bag or in your home is a good idea.    Learn to assemble and disassemble your handgun and you’ll know how to do your own gunsmithing and repairs yourself.  Glocks may be one of the easiest guns to maintain and that also means replacing the parts.

Why be without spare parts?

AR15 Spare Parts
What is it? The TAC-PAC is a modular storage system designed to store tactical batteries and other small parts. It consists of an injection-molded housing with interchangeable EVA foam die cut inserts. The housing and insert is closed with a snap-on rubber sealing lid. This is then placed into a tactical nylon storage pouch.
A complete bolt can be at your disposal ready to be installed, and the parts necessary to repair the faulty bolt are stored handily for the needed repair. You just supply the level of AR15 spare parts you think you might need. Why be without spare gas rings or an extractor?
