Levels of Security

Galco HolstersSome users like to bash the clip on holster designs and the reality is that a clip on isn’t as secure as a paddle or belt design, but if you match the right belt to a holter, it is a fine CCW option, especially if you are going to be taking the gun and holster off while you are out.   I personally prefer the vertical shoulder holster design, but I’ve been tempted to wear the Galco Miami Classic holster on occassion.  They are defanitely one of the nicest shoulder holsters out there.

One of the most well known leather holster manufacturers is Galco Holsters.   They make some of the nicest belt holsters you can find.    When you get down to it, all of these holster options are really preference because nobody can tell you that something can’t work for you.   Some holster designs like Kydex are better in warm and sweaty environments, but when you’re looking for a rock solid setup, you can’t beat the security of a belt holster.

Save a buck and get the job done

Gun HolstersUncle Mikes holsters have been around for a long time and I know some people have it in for them because they aren’t very expensive and many of them are made out of Nylon.    After being in the gun industry for so many years, I’m starting to be amazed at the number of people I have respect for that are walking around with 38 Specials and 32ACP pocket guns and believe me, they aren’t underpowered.    The experts don’t always carry the most expensive holsters and gear, sometimes they just use when is neccessary and don’t waste money.

The move away from leather holsters is about as common as the move away from steel guns to polymer.   Both are time tested products that work in certain conditions, but there are many advantages Kydex and Polymer have over the stuff your Daddy carried.    I’ve got lots of nice leather holsters that look nice, but I don’t like the idea of using them in environments that get muddy or places I know I’ll be sweating.   Uncle Mikes gun holsters are a very inexpensive investment, but it’s an inexpensive investment in something that gets the job done

Upgrade from your army surplus gear holster

Gun holsters
As SWAT Teams have changed their gear, so have the holsters they use for sidearms.   Something like a leg holster for Police or LEOs were not very common since Sheriffs stopped riding horses and started to drive cars.   Now  you’ll be lucky to find a SWAT Team where leg holsters aren’t being used.  If you’ve got to tote an M4 around there really isn’t a good way avoiding snagging or arm movements if you’ve got a paddle holster or OWB holster on.   Galco Holsters,  Blackhawk and Safariland are by far some of the more popular brands with a diverse product line for concealement and tactical purposes.

Like people, gun holsters come in all shapes and sizes.    Holsters can be made out of nylon or they can be made out of kydex.   Years ago there were not as many options other than the military style holter or thumbreak holsters.    Most gun holsters were made out of leather and the balance between protecting a firearm and making it easy to draw from was pretty bad.    Most holsters were meant for LEO or Military personal, but not for concealment.    Pocket guns have been around for hundreds of years, but every since the semi-auto pocket guns came on the market, worrying about lint build up and avoiding gun printing was problematic.

Walk slowly

Galco HolstersSelecting the right holster for you and going to take some work.   The best thing you can do before you start carrying a firearm is figure out what kind of gun you really want to carry and then go from there.   Some people want to carry a full size auto right off the bat and then find out which holster works for them.   Firearms can be carried in various ways, but situations and comfort are really the key.   I have a friend that carries a full size Springfield 1911 and claims there is no difference in carry that vs a smaller auto.

If you get a good belt like a Wilderness Instrcutor belt or something that has real support, you’ll be amazed at how those heavy pistols don’t really feel like their dragging around with you. Galco holsters has a diverse product line, people need to really know what it’s like to tote a pistol around IWB all day to know where to wear it on their belt and what their tolerances are.  If you are constantly readjusting  your gun while you are out and about, you may want to consider a different belt, holster, or firearm.   Thats one way to giveaway your concealment if you are being monitored by a BG.  Galco leather holsters come in IWB, OWB, Shoulder holster, belt slot holster, ankle, waist pack (or commonly known as fanny pack).   It may also be wise to consider summer/winter holsters and possible a t-shirt and suit and tie holster.    No one holster is going to work for all of these situations so walk slowly.

Concealement or Duty Holsters Options, Options…

Pistol HolstersThe argument about which gun is better than the other is  like beating a dead horse to most gun enthusiasts, but when talking about gun holsters there seems to be very little argument.   Whenever I speak to my friends about the topic of gun holsters, there is a clear and obvious reality that no holster is good for everything.   Some holsters look nice and feel nice, but they won’t hold up to adverse weather.   Nylon and plastics are options for damp environments, but there can always be drawbacks.
Whenever your looking for a pistol holster, think about the number of climate changes or environments, concealement or open carry options, and then take your pick of the many brands like, Galco, Fobus, Don Hume, Uncle Mike’s, Blackhawk, Bianchi and see which needs can be fulfilled.   Some manufacturers are making holsters from leather to high density plastics and shoulder holsters to paddle holsters.

More Shoulder Holster Options

Galco Shoulder Holster

From what many people seem to like about shoulder holsters is the stability of carrying a larger size revolver or duty gun. Something like a Glock 17 or Sig 226, Beretta 96 ect are all a little large for IWB and OWB limits the defensive movement inside a vehicle.

Galco  shoulder holsters come in a very diverse variety. You you use them for concealed carry purposes or for open carry or duty. One of my favorite ways to carry a Sig 226 is a Galco shoulder holster. I like the idea of being able to sit down in a car and still be able to grab the firearm without fiddling with a seatbelt. The only other car friendly variation of carrying a firearm in a car and being able to reach it quickly is with an ankle holster. Galco has several shoulder holster and ankle holsters on the market.

One of most popular CCW Firearms

Galco HolstersIf you were new to the concealed carry world, one of the most popular CCW firearms recommended is the Sig 239.   Some may think that the smaller the firearm the easier it could be to handle, but that is simple not true.   I’ve stood on the firing line and seen guys put 32acp and 9mm firearms in their friends hands and people always comment how much bite the gun has.  The smaller the gun, the ligter it is to carry around but not neccessarily easier to shoot or control.
Some may also recommend something like a short barrel revolver or snub nose, but they also have a lot of bite and notoriously harsh triggers.   The Sig 239 is a duty pistol in LEO and Government agencies and also one of the top CCW guns on the market.   It is heavy for it’s size, but it’s size is really not that big.  One of my favorite ways to carry this gun is in a Galco Holster.   You can choose from IWB, OWB, Paddle or shoulder holster.   The Sig 239 is as durable as all of the other Duty sized Sig firearms on the market.

Galco Holsters so man options

MGalco Holstersany service members strongly prefer a quality leather shoulder system to the synthetic flap holsters issued by the military. We at Galco, along with some of our loyal customers, have taken note of the high demand for our shoulder holster systems among the courageous American military personnel who are fighting the ongoing War on Terrorism. The vast majority of Galco holsters sent to personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan have been purchased with the private funds of service members and their families. Galco elected to help support these fine men and women by instituting the Holsters for Heroes™ program.

Galco Holsters are one of the most popular manufacturers for duty and concealed carry holsters. You can choose from anke holsters, paddle, bellybands ect. All Galco holsters with safety straps and thumbreaks are designed to carry the 1911 with the “hammer down, chamber empty”. Galco Holsters

Galco International was founded by Richard N. Gallagher in 1969 as a small family business in Chicago, Illinois. Known then as “The Original Jackass Leather Company,” Gallagher specialized in holsters constructed of horsehide.

Galco HolstersIn 1980 the name of the company was changed to Galco International, and in 1983 the business was moved from Chicago to its present home in Phoenix, Arizona.  Galco Holsters. Already famous for high quality and innovative designs, Galco gained worldwide notoriety when the Jackass shoulder system became a “recurring character” on the popular 1980’s TV series Miami Vice. In the new century, Galco continues to be a favorite choice of Hollywood, appearing in more films and TV shows than any other holster maker.
