Mounting optics on a combat rifle, what you need to know

Trijicon ACOGS for saleI don’t know how many times I’ve walked into Cabela’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods or some gun shop and  picked up a rifle, whether it was a hunting rifle or a military style rifle and noticed that the scope was not mounted correctly.  So many people lack any gunsmithing or armorer skills that they don’t have the slightest clue how to know if the scope is level.   I usually mount all of my scopes while at a firing range, and once I think i got it, I make a few shots on paper, adjust the elevation about 4 MOA and then take a few shots  more, once I know the elevation is adjust the point of impact up or down, and not moving the way the windage adjustmants would move POI, then I know I got it for sure.  Some people seem to not want to put the effort in and when  they see me hitting steel plates at 400yds, they don’t have the slightest idea how I can do it.

The above mentioned are some suggestions on how to verify you have a leveled scope, but you can make things a lot easier by buying an Eotech or an ACOG.   If you want to make your longer range shooting very easy Trijicon ACOGS for sale are probable the best option for you.  For instance, the Trijicon TA01NSN has bullet comp out to 600yds for the  62GR SCBT or the M855 round out of an M4 Carbine.    You will be able to nail targets ad varying distances just by adjusting where you put the crosshairs.  There are other reticles that you can use for different ranges but all of them are things you will want to research.  The Chevron reticles are fast outselling crosshair reticles.

Measure rifle cases and what effects accessorizing your AR15

bulldog gun casesWe sold a boat load of gun cases in recent weeks and most of it because people are looking to keep their guns protected as well as organized.   We’ve been getting a lot of horror stories from local police departments about the gear they have an all of the things that can and will go wrong with hard use.   I would probable say that most SWAT guys spend more time carrying firearms around, either in a car or in and out of a Police Department.   Some Cops tell me they don’t like flashlights that have click switches.  Why?  because they’ve had enough experience with them to know that they break, its a major difference between Surefire and a lot of the Streamlight flashlight product lines.   Weapon mounted lights also can get trick with the rifle cases and here’s some pointers on what to think about.

I’ve you’ve got a pressure switch, I hope you’ve looked into the failure rates with them and why so many pros don’t even mount them on their guns.   When you are choosing a gun case you might want to look at the Bulldog gun cases if you just want to clean up your mags and maybe label the gun case for a specific firearm and keep your Magpul Pmags and sight in tools in their.   Zippers are also something else to think about because the sturdyness of a gun case is something you can feel as soon as you pick it up.    The differences between a firearm may not be just the barrel length, it’s more about the OAL of a firearm because butt stocks and grips and optics can also have an impact on whether or  not a certain type of tactical nylon gun case is going to work for you.

Elite Survival bags

Elite Survival bagsOne of the things that made  us go with being a stocking dealer for various tactical gun case, range bags, and modern computer cases like the Elite Survival Messenger bag was because so many people were calling us on the phone and asking us all of the technical specs for various products we had listed on our website.   One thing we have found is that everyone can tell you the length of their rifle barrel but nobody has a clue what the overall length of their AR15 is.    Laptops and various technical gadgets are the same thing, everyone knows their monitory size but nobody knows what bag is going to fit it.  Sometimes its easier to just bring your gear in and see.   Sometimes people need to pack up their gear and see if it all fits in, we understand.

The Elite Survival systems tactical messenger bag has a waterproof compartment that protects electronics from the elements.   More of the Elite Survival  bags have features that are very well designed and sometimes we get questions from customers and have to ask the manufacturer why they did what they did and then pass it on to the customer so they really understand what they are getting and why a tactical backpack or carry bag is what it is.  Lots of people are asking for I-phone cases because so many Police and Military personnel are using them and need them on a tactical vest.   There are some really neat hydration systems, so stop  in and check them out.

Elite Survival Overall view of the product line

Elite survival gun casesWe’ve been customers of Elite Survival Systems before we actually started carrying the product line and they were one of the early products we decided to pick up.  We’ve been getting a lot of questions about the Voodoo tactical products which are next on our list. People are very specific about molle gear and once someone drops $2000 or more on a rifle, the argument about putting out $100 or more on a gun case is moot.  I have several of the gun cases since I find that one of the coolest aspects of the Elite Survival Systems made in the USA product line.   I have the COC cases in 33 and 36 for myself as well as the Epsilon Shooting mats.   Each of these work well for most Carbines like the AK or AR15 variants.  I have a Bushmaster 20 inch barrel in one and my M6a2 in another.

When it comes to bags, we have a military, security and EMS customer base that have gear usually in another bag and they want to make sure it’s going to work for them in their new bag.   Some of the products like the Elite Survival gun cases are specific to caliber and the size of the rifle.  We have a large 3 gun shooter customer base and the Double Agent case has also been a top seller.   People that are travelling and need a Remington 870 and an AR15 don’t want to need to pick up 2 rifle case, a double is what they want.   The amount of padding or foam protection can vary from brand to brand and the durability of the zippers can also vary.   Elite Survival Systems product line is our primary tactical nylon line for a reason.

Soft cases and inexpensive gun cases are good enough!

allen gun casesThere are plenty of products that we sell that I personally don’t use but many of our customers find them useful.   Uncle Mike’s products are good for the people that want something like that, but I have my preferences in what I buy for myself as far as tactical nylon.   I feel the higher end products are more along the lines of what I want to use.   I have several Uncle Mike’s and Bulldog assault rifle cases because at the time I was purchasing them, I was just looking for an AK47, AR15 or Mini 14 bag that I could store the magazines with the gun.  I have learned to label everything in this industry because many firearm magazine especially 223 magazines look more and more alike.   We recently heard that Magpul is making an AK47 PMAG which will make it even hard to identify some of your rifle mags and taking the wrong magazines to the range can ruin your day trip, I know I have done this.

There are Bulldog gun cases that can be had for pistols and even scoped pistols for a very inexpensive price range.   Some of the Allen gun cases are in the $30+ range and you can get a nice AR15 or Mini 14 gun case that holds your 30rd mags.  You can fit 20rds in there but they will sit at the bottom of the case.   If this is all you need to do, then that’s all you need to do.    The scabbared rifle cases are something that I see people use to transport lever action rifles or even just an iron sighted 22LR.  For handguns the pistol rung or the molded pistol cases will also get the job done and for a very low price.   It’s all about what you want to spend and what you think you’re going to get out of it.

Check out the ever expanding Rogue Elite Tactical Product line

fobus holstersNew this fall we will be bringing on the Aimpoint and Fobus product lines into our 1500 sqft tactical store along with several items from Tru-Spec and Warwick Mills.   We have dealt with several distributors over the last 9yrs and it’s gotten to the point that instead of waiting for stock to arrive, and have to deal with fighting over inventory from other dealers, it was time to start stocking the stuff directly.   There are always changes and improvements to product lines and not getting stuck with a dud product or making sure you have the newest version of something is very important.  Just this year alone we saw some major improvements to our holster and tazer product lines and LED Technology for flashlights has improved by about 85%.  Sometimes holster companies don’t have the accessories up to date with the batons, flashlights, magazine pouches ect that people want.

There have been situations where we have asked customers to look into getting a customer kydex holster becaues there needs were beyond what many manufacturers could make.   Many of our Law Enforcement sometimes have an issue with a holster breaking and just need a quick fix for a range day and that is often where Fobus Holsters come in.   I have a Fobus holster for every Glock firearm, Sig Sauer 228, 229 and Sig 220 that I own.   There are some retention holsters that I may look into picking up since we are a direct dealer now.   The new E2 holster has more flexability when it comes to adjusting your retention which was a common complaint about some of the earlier paddle holsters.

A very successful year in Delaware County

philadelphia police supply storesThis year was a very successful year for us in the Delaware County area in launching our tactical store and we double the size of our business in the first 6 months.  People are still finding out about us via word of mouth whenever they need a new holster, police boots or even just Ambulance companies hiring and people  needing to get a pair of pants.  Much of the product line we stock in our store is for people to checkout instead of buying it online.  Duty gear like handcuff keys and various police belts are things that people in the Law Enforcement industry lose or wear out over time and are always in need of.    Police vests, tactical pants, uniform pants, belts, hydration unites, SWAT team bags are things that are always wearing out and need to be replaced.

We’ve learned there are so many types of handcuffs, swivel and hinged doesn’t always narrow it down, some are different weights and types of metal.  The items we have brought in this year are the Safariland lightweight handcuffs and in our region there are no Philadelphia Police Supplies shops around here and many of our Law Enforcement Officers are very happy to see a business like this open up.   Tactical vests, body armor are all things people need to be sized up on and this is something that has to be done right so that there are fewer returns.   We stock a large number of Blackhawk serpa holsters, safariland products, pepper spray, mace, tasers, batons, police badge holders and more and more duty gear.

The differences between all of that tactical nylong companies

bulldog gun casesI will admit first off that we sell a ton of nylon gear, bags, molle and holsters from a great many manufacturers.   There are differences in quality and you do get what you pay for, but the truth of the matter is that nylon is not going to cost you what some of the leather or customer kydex holsters are going to so you are more than likely going to get a less expensive item.   We  have a large selection of belt clip  holsters because so many people come into our store and need a holster but they don’t really have any particular brand or style.   Some of the IWB holsters are ambidextrous and this pretty common in this industry.   We have Bulldog, Uncle Mike’s, Elite Survival Systems and even some of the Voodoo tactical products.  Some of the range bags from Bulldog are very simple and there products are reasonable priced.

Instead of using a rifle sock, I’m a big fan of the Bulldog Economy gun cases because they offer more protection and have handles and they are practically in the same price range is a rifle sock.   I usually transport my 22 Caliber rifles or my Remington 870 shotgun in my Bulldog gun cases because they are very long but not high value rifles so there is no need for me to drop $100 on a heavily padded rifle case because I have $2000 tied up with a carbine and it’s fancy Trijicon ACOG optics.  There are several range bags, gun cases, pocket holsters, shoulder holsters and even some tactical holsters that are definitely pick me ups.

Lasers for communication and targeting, not just for plinking

crimson trace laser gripsThe whole laser and light debate seems to make people’s heads spin because so much of it is about scenarios or hypothetical situations.   You have to train to use those tools and they can all be a liability.  Just like hunting deer, you gotta watch how you move and worry about being downwind so you have a better change of getting your game, well being in the military or Law Enforcement, they are trained to use various tools like ballistic shields, flash bangs and breaching shotguns.   Home owners should really train to  use their firearms in situations that pertain to the dimensions of their houses.   If you measure out areas where you might potentially defend yourself, you are being more practical and build muscle memory and confidence.  If you don’t have that, you may want to switch firearms or put a laser grip or a laser light combo on your gun.

There are several products that we sell that each do things a little different so you might want to call or email us questions if you are not sure about various features.   The reviews we have gotten on the Crimson Trace Laser Grips make it our number one most sold, but if you got the money check out Viridian or even the Streamlight laser light combos.   Crimson Trace Laser grips can work well on revolvers for hunting (on private land) or for adding confidence to your CCW .380 or J-frame guns.   You can also use lasers to point to certain areas and also to identify where a threat might be hiding.  Don’t forget that even though you might have gotten in trouble in school for using a laser pointer, you can use them in the same way on your firearm, as long as you pay attention to the 4 safety rules.

All safety eyewear is not the same, and you don’t want to make mistakes!

Smith Optics Elite eyewearThere are plenty of stories out about guys being deployed to Iraq or over sears and having eyewear on and then finding out later that the eyewear they were using did not have any ballistic safety rating.  Sure you can wear regular sunglasses on a firing line and you might think that’s all you need, and statistically you probable are fine, but in high risk line of work, things fly around during gun fights or in military engagements that aren’t always lead.   Go to a rifle range and put a 55gr bullet into the ground right in front of a paper target and check out the bumber of holes that will be on the paper from rocks or sticks that flew up from the bullet strike and blew through the paper target.  Sure the human body is not made of paper but that means cuts or scraps and if you get hit in the eyes, that can mean you have lost an eye.

We’ve tested lots of eyewear out over the years and ESS, Revision, Oakley all have their good points and are all good at protecting your eyes but Smith Optics Elite is a new product line that gives you another option.   Like much of the tactical industry, it’s about preference not  just quality and Smith Optics Elite Eyewear has an ever expanding product line, from tactical goggles, turbo fan goggles, the Boogie Regulator that are very low priced but very popular for training.   The Smith Optics Elite protective sunglasses are my favorite due to the durability and ease of maintaining the lenses.  This an a great factory warranty means getting your moneys worth.
