Eotac Field Jacket #1

Eotac field jacketThe jacket may look heavier than it really is.   I would suggest that you wear this in the Fall or Spring and use it as a surface layer and just add on base layer clothing is the temperatures get colder.   We are discounting the Lizard patter jackets and the lizard patter Field Vest which also has similiar pocket designs.   We have had virtually zero complaints about the fit of this jacket as long as the user reads our sizing guide and measure themselves properly.  You will easily be able to carry fully loaded double stack magazines as well as flashlights and knives comfortable and not have to worry about printing.  You will be able to carry small autos or j-frame guns in the outer pockets but I am not really a fan of carrying guns in coats, jackets or vests.

We have been selling a few brands of tactical clothing that from the pictures you see on  our website, may look like they are the same thing.   The reality is much of what you saw from Woolrich Elite over the years was marketed and designed by the people behind Eotac.   While we let our customers debate over which products they prefer, the item we are selling now that we absolutely have an opinion about and aren’t afraid to say it is the new Eotac Field Jacket.   This field jacket is designed for modern gear and is based off of the Algerian jacket that was issued in the 1950s.  The fit and design of the pockets is superior to any simliar jacket and according to our customers this is the better jacket.   The only complaint we have gotten on the jacket is that it doesn’t hang low over the belt line so you will have to take that into consideration when thinking about CCW options.

Concealed carry pants and backup weapons

tactical pantsI still run into friends that laugh at the whole concealed carry market and say that the pants and shirts all look tactical and not very concealed carry.   There are arguments all over the internet about not wearing camoflauge while carrying a gun or wearing anything that makes you look like you’re packing.   Well, I’ve spotted plenty of off duty cops that were wearing t-shirts and jeans, but the shaved heads and the polite manners basically gave away the fact they were LEOs, so how do you hide that?

Here’s the realty,  keep your eyes open, situational awareness is more important that what type of clothing you are wearing.   I agree that looking like a SWAT team member with tactical pants  might make you a primary target if you are in the middle of a bank robbery, but if you spotted the bank robber first and left the building or confronted him before he confronted you, who cares what you are wearing.   In this day and age, with so many pocket guns ect.  many regular clothing designs are not comfortable to use if you are carrying mace or firearms and accessories.  The Eotac style 205 pants have side zipper pockets that can hold firearms or mace and are very good for backup weapons.   The Kimber Guardian angel works very well in these pockets and although there are other similiar looking pants out there, these look more like men’s jeans and feel like them wear other tactical pants or concealed carry looking pants are a purplish blue and not very manly looking.

tactical pants and consistancy

tactical pantsI’ve been wearing Eotac tactical pants and shorts for almost 2 yrs now.   I’ve seen only one real production change since I’ve been wearing them and that pretty much proves that Eotac got it right with their line of tactical pants.  Some of the early production pants were a little tight in the thighs but I never noticed this problem since I’m not a body building (the only people that noticed).   I really like the fit compared to the 5.11 tactical pants I use to wear primarily because they don’t ride up in the seat.   I think that is the most common complaint I get from customers when they call and ask about various tactical pants that we sell.

The Style 202 are my favorite pants to wear for fall and winter weather.   At first glance, most of the tactical pants out there look the same, but just like many of the firearms that we see in the industry, some of it just comes down to preference.   I find some of the tactical pants made by Blackhawk and Proper to be a little overly designed, and I don’t need pockets in many of the places that some manufacturers are placing them.  They Style 202 pants have them were I need them and they are designed to the proper dimensions.   It always bothered me that so many shirts and pants had basically flat dimensions and you couldn’t really fit much in them.   This became an issue with many of the tactical shirts I have worn especially when it came to using notepads.   If the notepad was full, my Woolrich Elite shirt face pockets couldn’t fit it and I’d have to place my notepad in the inner pockets.  All of the Eotac shirts and pants have bellowed pockets that aren’t bulging, but give you about another 30% for putting more in a pocket, without adding more and more pockets to a design.   There can be too many pockets on tactical clothing.

Big Sale on Eotac Shirts for limited time

tactical shirtsWe’re running a huge sale on our concealed carry and Eotac shirts.   Even though we are in the midst  of one of the warmest summers, we’re discounting many of our long sleeve and heavier clothing for you to stock up on when Fall rolls around.   Eotac tactical shirts that are on sale are the Style 407, Style 408.   The shirts that fall under the CCW shirts are the Style 403,  Style 404 and Style 409.   Our most popular summer CCW shirt is hands down the Styles 403 and Style 404 because they are about as lightweight as a cotton t-shirt.   These shirts are excellent options in extremely warm weather and still allow concleament but easy access to gear near the belt line.

We are only discounting these shirts for a limited time so  if you are a 5.11 customer or other tactical apparel wearer, nows the time to test the waters with the new Eotac tactical apparel line.    Eotac clothing has been on the market for a little over a year and half and is designed by the same designers that originally created Woolrich Elite Series clothing.    The tactical shirts are all heavier weight and the most popular selling one is hands down the Style 401.  Tactical shirts become very practical when operators are needing to carry more of their office or training and communication tools with them.   The pockets are designed for the most common types of notepads and modern cell phone accessories.

Hot weather and clothing

tactical shirtsThis summer has already been  hotter than the summers that I remember in the previous decade.  Since I’ve been wearing the same clothing or similiar types of clothing for the past coupl years, I can really feel the changes in seasons.   In New Jersey we get all 4 Seasons, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring.  Good luck in trying to wear the same pants or shirt through all of that!  5.11 Tactical has probable the most diverse product line, but we get an enormous number of complaints from them.   Eotac products have been on the market for bairly more than a year and we’re still hoping for more new products.   In the summer months we can really feel the need for more lightweight products.    The concealed carry clothing that works the best in really hot weather are the Style 403 and Style 404 shirts which are basically as light as a t-shirt, but designed for concealing a firearm, and they allow for easy access under cover.

Eotac has tactical shirts that I would highly recommend for those still wanting a shirt for range use.    The style 401 Eotac shirt is highly recommend by our operators due to the fact that it is short sleeve, vented properly and the shirt has a zipper that looks professional even when zipped down. For the remaining parts of July and August we are running a huge promo on these items.   Considering how hot it’s been in most of the Country and the fact that these are already a big seller for this time of year, they may be sold out before the end of month.   See our sizing guide for the proper measurements and feel free to call or email us with any questions.

Direct Action clothing from Eotac

tactical pantsNext week there will be a Police and Security Expo in Atlantic City, New Jersey and Eotac will displaying some of  their A-Tacs and Direct Action products.   We’re still not sure about everything that Eotac has coming out this Fall and in 2011, but seeing some of the info about what is coming soon really makes us think that 5.11 Tactical is going to have  some real compeition out there.   I can’t tell you the number of times we’ve  had customers call us up and complain about the tactical pants that they have  been wearing from 5.11.   Many of them complain about how things use to be and how they end up with different sizing even though they keep ordering the same sizes.   I was checking out some of the 5.11 tactical shirts that were the Covert carry design and I may pick up a few, but I personally think the Woolrich Elite CCW shirts are a much better feel.   Even though we are very selective about the products we carry, I’d have to admit that every big name manufacturer has a niche market that some of their products perform very well in.

The slow economy doesn’t seem to be affecting the tactical pants market though.  It seems that every time I step onto a firing line, somebody shows up wearing tactical pants from another company that I never heard of.   There was even a gun shop on the West Coast that was making a really cheap knock off of the the ACU pants.     I believe I could name half a dozen manufacturers that made the ACU pants, but only Eotac made it right.    I still have a few BDU pants that I use to wear when I was in College, but those pants are so darn uncomfortable to wear to the range anymore and the pockets are not very secure.   It’s one thing to have a pocket for mag dumps, but try putting a Blackberry or mace in BDU pants and you’ll  have no idea where they are after you take your first stride.   Some of the tactical pants I have seen really look over done though.  They’ve got a pocket within a pocket and a pocket behind every seam.   I guess I should walk around and check out some of these other manufacturers and see how the quality holds up.  I think thats the issue that eliminates a lot of competition.

New Direct Action line coming from Eotac

Rogue Elite will be running promos for the new apparel line called Elite Operator Tactical or which is more commonly named, Eotac.   We have seen the tactical apparel market explode in the last few years, but we have also seen some casualties.   There have been several small concealed carry clothing companies come out with pants or vests that have already gone out of business.   The art of designing tactical or concealed carry clothing is not an easy one.   The real problem that we see in many of the products that are showing up is consistancy and quality.   5.11 tactical has held a huge chunk of the market, but as many of our customers know, the original manufacturers made a higher quality clothing line and things have deteriorated.   Some of the 5.11 clothing I own is nice,  but on more than one occasion, the sizing was inconsistant.   I have seen some of the newer casual clothing and it does look nice, but I’m still wondering if I’d have the same issues if I wore their shirts.

Woolrich has been making tactical clothing for almost 5years now, but seems to have taken a real hit since so many dealers have dropped the line.   We have been told that many of the people that were originally behind the Woolrich Elite Series clothing split off from the company and are working with Eotac.    We wondered about that when Eotac first showed up on the market because so much of their clothing mirrored 5.11 Tactical and Woolrich Elite Series clothing.    This coming Fall there will be some real cutting edge products coming from Eotac, namely the Direct Action line.   The new A-Tacs camo is really nice and we will first get a glimpse of this at the Atlantic City Expo in June.

Order clothing online vs brick and mortar

tactical pantsNothing beats a good brick and mortar store that stocks tactical clothing, but there aren’t too many of those out there.  Makes sure you do some research on clothing sizing and look at the sizing guides closely.   To avoid wasting money on shipping and return shipping charges, you may want to break out a tape measure and measure yourself.   Comparing one clothing line to another is a no, no, since not everyone follows the same standards.    The Eotac tactical pants have an elastic wasteband which will give  you some flexibility in waist sizing.   Keep in mind that when you measure yourself, you should be measuring with the gun inside your waist if you carry IWB.   We have a great many of sizing issues when people order The Wilderness belts.   These tactical belts are hands down the best configuration for carrying firearms around, but the sizing can be tricky.

Many people have asked us which type of pants are the ones they want, we get asked which shirts people should wear and we get asked which color would looks the best.   Its funny that working in the tactical clothing business isn’t much different than working in any other apparel business.   People want to look professional and with the selection of tactical pants, tactical shirts, tactical vests, and the long line of concealed carry apparel coming out, we know that matching shirts with pants ect. is something that takes a little time.   Ordering clothing over the internet for new clothing products makes things even harder.   Something like color selections can be very difficult for shoppers, but its just as complicated to dealers.   We get color swatches from manufacturers that may look correct until you upload it to a computer and realize that the computere monitors that people are using may have their colors adjusted and dark blues make look light blue depending on which computer you view it on.

Tactical Cargo Shorts

Woolrich Elite SeriesThe lightweight 100% cotton ripstop pants are very comfortable, but in 90F+ weather I’m always going to go with shorts even if they are made of heavy material.   Protecting your legs from bug bites is also something to consider when wearing shorts and clearing out woodlands because you never know what is going to be swarming around you when you start sweating up a storm.   There are some bug repellents that can be worn on a belt, but with the work I will be doing, I prever to bring a spray bottle with me and store it on the cargo pockets.   Since I am also always carrying flashlights, radios, guns and other items, not having enough pockets means putting more on the belt line.    I find wearing too much on the belt being a real pain when having to do a lot of lifting so just about everything except my Glock 26 is stored in my Woolrich Elite Pants.

I have another trip up in the sticks where we have to do some land clearing.   The State is asking us to clear out a mountain range for fire prevention.   Working in emergency management we get everything from clearing car accidents and hostage situations.    One thing we also never know from day to day is what type of clothing we’ll be needing.   Most of us started out wearing 5.11 Tactical clothing because they pretty much held the market for years and there wasn’t much else out there.   A few years ago Woolrich Elite Series clothing arrived on the market although Woolrich has been in the clothing industry for over 150 years.  Woolrich Elite cargo shorts style 4905 are made of a cotton canvas material which makes them very hard to tear.   Unlike many of the lightweight style shorts out there, these have side cargo pockets which are great for storing lighters, bug repllent, hand wipes ect.   Due to the fact that wearing pants in certain hot weather means unnecesary sweating and water loss, you really have to think about how much clothing is necessary.    I’ve had shorts on in hot weather and felt comfortable until I came home with poison ivy.

The blue colar CCW owner

tactical shirtsThe blue colar CCW owner is probable the most common gun carrier you may run into.   I’m not  going to go into a class warfare thing here, but in my opinion, there’s no reason to look down on blue colar workers as opposed to white colar gun owners.   The whole blue vs white thing seems to be a made up argument between people that spent $80,000 on a College education that got them absolutely nothing a small business owner already knew.   Life is full of invenstment opportunities and we need to take advantage of those opportunities.   Getting an education should be viewed in the same manor as buying a house.   You spend money on something, you expect a return, and if the return wasn’t worth it, the investment wasn’t worth it.

Eotac apparel comes with a factory warranty that backs up their products.  If you have any kind of factory defect, they will exchange the product after inspection.   The clothes you wear from some other tactical shirt companies may be cheaper, but how long will they last?  What happens if you wear them to the range and the pants tear out on you?   The 409 mechanic shirt is something anyone working a blue colar working environment will appreciate.   These shirts may at first look like a gimick, but to those who actually fit into this environment, these shirts can carry your custom logo and they will probable breath better and make accessing gear easier compared to a standard issue mechanic shirt.
