New tactical clothing option without the sticker shock!

truspec simple tactical We’ve had lots of tactical pants, tactical shorts, and other items come in to our store and some of our employees wear all different types of tactical apparel.   We first found out about the Tru-Spec 24/7 series womens pants from an employee that was wearing them and told us they had a great reputation for quality and price points.   We’ve tried several other clothing companies products but many of them were either too expensive the fit just sucked, or the quality control was too spotty for us to even risk our reputation in carrying them.  I’ve heard lots of people mention how much 5.11 tactical products are being marketed but the prices have really shot up.   Not a lot of people are going to go along with the sticker shock, and we’ve seen people do this in the past.

There is something to be said about costs being a ceiling, there are products that come on the market and then when prices go up, people start shopping around for a better deal.  In an economy like this products like Truspecs simple tactical line will do well because not everyone in Law Enforcement needs zippers and pockets at every point.  Yes, they like to carry tactical knives or put an AR15 magazine in the pocket, but comfort, durability and price points are very important.  Once products get above $50 or so people will bail on you unless they have the money or the need for the product.

What tactical pants work for you?

blackkhawk tactical pantsI’ve been wearing Tru-Spec and Blackhawk pants for almost a year and my tastes have changed dramatically.   I started out with the Tru-Spec 24/7 Series pants but had a few issues with my wallet being kicked out of the ID pocket and it started to bother me so much I re-considered wearing the Blackhawk Tactical pants.  I normally carry pepper spray in the front pockets of my Woolrich Elite Series Tactical pants and my Eotac pants but only Blackhawk and 5.11 tactical had a pocket that was similar to the platform that I was use to.  I attempted to get into 5.11 tactical pants several times but have gotten so much negative flack and proved it myself with several wear tests that it’s hard for me to even have a 5.11 tactical product in my clothing rotation.

The Tru-Spec 24/7 Series pants may not work for you but the quality is defanitely there.  I would defanitely say that the Blackhawk tactical pants that I’ve been wearing for 4 months now have grown on me.  I wish the side cargo pockets were about 2 inches deeper and I wish they had an ID pocket in the seat area on the left side.  If Blackhawk Warrior Wear did that these might become my favorite tactical pants.   I will be making my switch to tactical shorts in a few weeks after an unseasonable cold Spring.   I’m not sure that here in Pennsylvania the Poly Cotton rip stop pants will be comfortable in 100F weather but I will definitely be posting  about various tactical pants and tactical shorts.

Off duty and training clothing for women, and we’ve seen them try to do it!

I’ve been in this industry for the better part of a decade and there was not much out there other than 5.11 clothing 10yrs ago.   I knew several people that knew the potential of the market and wanted to get something new out there.  Now the tactical clothing is flooded but some of the same problems are there.   Quality control, and the lack of a decent line of products for women.  Today i had a female police officer come in looking for Ladies duty gear, last week it was ladies pants.  We never saw the Eotac product line go out there for women, but recently only Tru-Spec tactical pants have had a 98% approval from our female customers.  Many women get stuck wearing mens tactical pants but the crotch and waist fit can get very annoying.

Poly cotton ripstop tends to be the best option since it does not need to be ironed and is a low maintenance material.   The best tactical pants we’ve seen are the 24/7 Series Tru-Spec womens pants that we always stock in our store.   There are several departments stopping in with female co-workers that need pants for when they have to leave the office and go out in the field.  The womens EMS pants have a 90% approval raiting and we rarely hear criticism about fit.  There are big differences in the pocket patterns because fitting pepper sprays, mace, batons, flashlights and a firearm can vary from person to person.  You really have to kind of know what you are looking for and then fit into the tactical clothing.  Some medical supplies fit very easily into the EMS pants.

You carry a firearm and have to think about Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer apparel, here’s some suggestions

tactical apparel It looks like Woolrich Elite Series Tactical is no more and the clothing has been drying up for some time now.   They never seemed to be able to move on and market their products after Backyard outfitter ceased marketing their products.    Even after all of these years of selling things that competed in the market against the 5.11 products, we still have customers coming in and bashing the 5.11 product line as having sub-par quality control.  It’s one reason why we don’t stock their clothing in large quantities.   Much of the fabric shrinks or falls apart and we don’t want to deal with the customer complaints for tactical pants, tactical shirts, tactical vests or jackets since this happens so much.   They are truely a monster of a company but there are better quality products out there for less money.

Finding shirts that fit you is something you are going to have to try out for yourself, the Blackhawk and Tru-Spec product lines have very good quality control, but sizing and fit are going to be different.  Everyone asks us how the cut is and every shirt and even some styles are cut differently.   TruSpec tactical apparel has uniform and tactical shirts as well as concealed carry shirts and the fabric, lightweight and ultralightweight tactical shirts are very different.  The gunny tactical line gives a different angle to the product line and the Tru-Spec 24/7 Series clothing and the Tru-Spec Simple Tactical clothing is going to really cut into Blackhawk and 5.11 tactical market just based on quality control and price points.

Getting positive reviews from the TruSpec softshell promo

truspec soft shell jacketsLast Fall we ran the Tru-Spec Softshell jacket promo and people were getting them for about $67.00 in comparison to the normal $89.95 price.   One of the problems with selling jackets like this  online is the fit and feel of many of these jackets can vary.   We have guys come in here that love the jackets or clothing we sell but the arm lengths don’t fit them very well or they are too tight in certain areas.   We have sold a ton of the Tru-Spec jackets to local law enforcement here in Pennsylvania.  At this time of the year right now, we are dealing with 35F temperatures during the night and 70F during the day.  Sometimes Cops have to stand outside in temperature variations like this and being over dresses is as bad as being under dressed.

The soft shell jackets have areas on both arms to put the velcro patches on and we are right now working on getting our own Rogue Elite patches.   Later this year we will be stocking and pushing the TruSpec Softshell jackets that are available in Black, Navy, MultiCam and Coyote.   I’d say the Black softshell jackets are the nicest looking ones and they are very tactical looking.   Each of the pockets lots of room for papers, pens, notebooks, flashlights, batons or whatever else you need.  The olive jackets work well in woodland environments and I consider the Multicam to be a bit of a novelty item even though they are almost 2x’s as much money.

Tru-Spec 24/7 Series Free Knife Promo

truspec tactical shortsThere are many apparel clothing manufacturers out there and there is a lot of competition. Our selection of Tru Spec 24/7 tactical pants are designed by people that work and operate in the tactical operations community and also design and build firearms.  The concealed carry market has expanded in the last decade and will continue to expand as firearms have been redesigned and become stronger and more reliable.   Trying to find tactical pants that work for concealed carry and shirts that look nice but function properly on the firing range are not common.   The Tru Spec tactical pants all have pockets that are perfect for pocket carry and tactical shirts. .  The pocket designs and feel are very different.

If you are looking for tactical shorts and you aren’t sure what your options, the TruSpec 24/7 series tactical shirts have the exact same pocket placements and the famous 24/7 series pants.   There are more TruSpec tactical shorts coming out later next month called the Simple Tactical shorts as well as more tactical pants.  This isn’t more over designed products, they are well made shorts and pants and almost 40% below what most of the competitors tactical shorts are going for.   There is also a month long promo on the Tru-Spec shorts where we are giving away a free knife for every 2 pairs of shorts you buy.   These shorts all have a 9″ inseam and are made of a 65/35 poly cotton blend.

Looks like Woolrich Inc is out of the tactical apparel market

Tru-Spec 24/7 series tactical clothingWe were the first dealer in Pennsylvania to carry the Woolrich Elite Series product line and I can’t think of much out there other than 5.11 tactical products, but Woolrich Elite Series products were very well received.  At the time the economy was better and people were willing to spend $50 for a pair of pants, but now things are really crazy and many of our customers are telling us they are dropping over $60 a pair of pants for 5.11 tactical stuff.   We’ve seen the ceiling be about $50 for pants and once we go over that for a product, we basically loose out to 5.11 tactical or some other company.  I have no idea what people are going to do if they liked Woolrich Elite Series products or the Eotac line because after checking out the Vertx, Tru-Spec and Blackhawk Product lines, they are all overy different.

There is a whole bunch of drama that went down with the guys that original came up with the idea for the Woolrich Elite line and in the end it lost out to the competition because it just couldn’t keep up with the times.   Our best best right now is to sell what our customers want and the Tru-Spec 24/7 Series tactical clothing has a great quality product for about 20%-40% less than their competitors.  There are the new Truely Tactical products coming out that are less than $40 and we expect that this is a great idea considering the economy and the market drive.  There are several companies making stuff now but nobody likes to buy online for new clothing and most walk to walk in a shop and try them on.

TruSpec shirts and outwear

truspec shirtsIt’s been over a year we’ve been selling these shirts and in comparison to some of the other brands, these, like the tactical pants are very well priced and have been an outstanding assett to our tactical clothing line.  Unlike military or Government persons, the Tru-Spec 24/7 series is a great quality product at a better price point.  The 24/7 Series tactical clothing line is also an accepted tactical clothing line for women and it’s almost miraculous that the pants are sell well design that our female customers don’t have much to complain about, and we never really hear it.  From the EMS pants to the 24/7 Series 98% of our female customers are satisfied.

The differences between the Tru-Spec jackets and shirts, whether we’re talking about the 24/7 series or the tactical line,  are going to fit differently than other brands.  There’s no way to get around the fact that Truspec shirts are going to fit you differently than 5.11 Tactical or Blackhawk. Once you talk about different quality control, different price ranges ect. the next reality is going to be about fit.  We’ve recently been dealing with a lot of people that wore the Woolrich Elite or Eotac product lines and are now wearing the Tru-Spec tactical line and telling us about arm length differences ect.   You really have to stop in our Broomall, PA 19008 tactical store to see for yourself.

After a few months of moving inventory, customers give you valuable feedback

tru-spec soft shell jacketsNow that Spring is almost upon us here in the Pennsylvania area, it’s almost time to ditch your heavy winter coats and bring out your lighter weight jackets.   Last Fall we were part of the Tru-Spec soft shell jacket promo and this was our first dive into moving outwear that was not Woolrich Elite Series Tactical or Eotac style.   The Tru-Spec product line really gives us a good foot in the door for competing for customers that where the 5.11 tactical product line.  The Tru Spec shirts and pants are similar in style to the poly cotton rip stop designs that have been around for several years.  It seems that most of our Law Enforcement customers prefer this material due to it being easier to keep from being wrinkled.

The soft shell promo helped us fill a whole in our inventory and get a jacket on the market that many of our customers were already wearing.  It’s nice to see people walk in the door that know the Tru-Spec product line and the Tru-Spec soft shell jackets are very cool looking jackets.   The Coyote Brown is a nice eye catching but very tactical looking jacket.   In rainy weather this does give you a very lightweight yet breathable jacket that will keep you dry and is not long and flappy like many rain coats.   These are available in Multicam as well as Olive, Black and Navy.

Somtimes our style of tactical pants changes for a reason

tactical pants Lately I have been carrying different gear with me at work and during classes.   Recently I was on a road trip and re discovered ankle and shoulder holsters and forgot what it was like to carry in those positions while driving 8hrs in a day.  There are plenty of reasons to consider ankle carry holsters but they are really meant for backups.   One thing I have noticed with various tactical pants is the cut of the pants near the ankles.  Not that I think people need bell bottom pants but this is something to seriously consider when you are carrying in this position.  Some styles of pants will not give you the movement you need and you will end up with your pants riding up on you.

When it comes to carrying handcuffs and batons, wallets and other paperwork, you are going to see huge differences in the types of pants out there.  Call me an old timer but I still don’t have Vertx tactical pants in my wardrobe although in 2013 I plan on getting some.   I have found I have learned to love the  Blackhawk lightweight tactical pants because they are holding up very well to all of the useage I have given them and the only negative I have so far are the lack of a left side wallet or ID pocket.   The pockets are a little too  deep for a wallet and I often feel like I lost it because it’s about 2-3 inches lower than it normally would be.   It’s not just about the material like 100% cotton ripstop or 65/35 poly cotton ripstop.
